It's that time again

Kiota's picture

Yep, time for me to join up for the scholarship again...

For those who don't know me, and for those who'd like a refresher (since I deleted the previous posts): I'm an eighteen-year-old girl, I currently live in Washington, I'm a freshman in college. I was born in the US, raised in Israel, travelled a bit in the US and in Europe, and am studying in the US right now. I'm hoping to become a social worker and also do documentary photography and creative writing. I'm currently taking two writing courses and a course in juvenile crime and justice.

I'll probably blog about the following subjects:

-current events
-government systems
-drugs
-taxes
-sex offenders
-abortion
-suicide
-mental illness
-sexuality
-sexism
-racism
-crime
-current events
-politics
-creative writing
-random stuff I think might be interesting

If you like my blog, please be awesome and rate my posts high and invite other people to view it. I could really, really use the scholarship monies.

And, what's with this new 200-word rule? 100 words was too short? Eh, not if the content was good. People can copy and paste news articles that are over a thousand words and say very little, or they can write a great deal in 100 words. Why jump it up to 200? If 100 words is too short, why not make it 150? When I write, I make the paper as long as it needs to be, whether that's 100 words or 10000 words. Bleh, this new rule is annoying.

I'll keep a watch on your blog and see how things are going! I'm definately just getting the hang of this. But unfortunately as you are in desperate need of the money, there are lots and lots of people on here who are also, but I will be sure to read your blogs, maybe help a little. Have a great day!

CHECK OUT MY BLOG AND I WILL LOVE YOU!!!http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/jennqt341

Why did you delete your old blogs? ;'(

To clear it out for the new scholarship season? :p

Hmmm. I didn't think it made a real difference...

As far as aesthetic appearance and overall content, it does.

And then you lose all the points for reads on your past blogs.

But doesn't everyone start with zero points at the beginning of the scholarship? O.o

Yes, but you get read points for every blog you have, not just the ones that were posted during the scholarship contest. So if you have a blog that's a year old, and someone comments on it and you get an additional 50 reads, that's another 50 points you get.

Hm, true. But all wiping my blog does is put me at the same level as the people who just joined now.

One of the most frequent requests was for the word count to be moved upward because so many people were writing 100 words that didn't talk about anything. It's easy to make the 100 word mark and not have put any effort into it. That annoyed everyone. So, 200 words it is.

Welcome back Kiota. I was disappointed when I saw you wanted all your old stuff deleted -- you had a lot of great posts. But it's great to have you back, and a fresh start never hurt!

Kiota's picture

Whoa - the ProU ALUMNI DIRECTOR read my posts? I feel really flattered now, thanks!

And yeah, I just wanted a nice fresh start. I will be reposting some posts I thought were good after I revise them a bit. Besides, all it did was put me at the same level as people who just joined in February... so I'm perhaps a little lower on the points ladder (is there any way I can see, btw? I have no idea what the significance of having 3000 points is because for all I know everyone else has 6000 and the leader in the contest has 10000 or something), but hey, equality is great. :D

Well, when I deleted double posts or comments, I never saw anybody above 600...

...what? ....I have 3420 right now. Um. But other writers are much more popular than I. O.o

Then what is the point of knowing how many points you have? As pointed out, for all I know 3k points is 10k points behind the leader.
