If you are against abortion, then don't have one. It's that simple: it's YOUR choice. I understand all the arguments against abortion and agree that life is absolutely precious, but there are some cases that cannot be overlooked. A woman should have full rights to her own body. If you are raped by your brother, you're not exactly thrilled to be having that baby. If you cannot, absolutely cannot, afford to take care of a baby, then there is no reason you should bring a child into this world if it will not have every chance for a good normal life that any other child has. How often are there reports on the news of babies being left in dumpsters? And I know this sounds horrible, but abortion may lower the crime rate. If a baby is brought into a very lower class environment, which many women seeking an abortion are of very meager economic means and cannot support a baby, then they tend to grow up on the lower end of the economic, educational, and social scale. These are the kids who tend to grow up to be criminals, as sad as that is, because in most cases that is their only means of survival. I am not exactly pro-abortion, I'm just pro-choice. A woman needs to make that decision on her own, and most of the time, there is a good reason why she is opting for abortion. If a woman wants to get an abortion simply because she doens't want a baby, and has no real justification behind that, then she is unfit to be a mother anyway because she is clearly immature. I personally know someone who HAD to have an abortion because she was very ill and doctors warned her that both she and the baby would have a slim to none chance of surviving labor. So either the baby dies, or the baby dies AND you die, and then you don't have a chance at making any more beatiful children for the future. It was a death sentence, and she was very upset of course, but the decision was clear. And my personal favorite, when pro-life activists target doctors at abortion clinics. What do they think they are accomplishing? When I heard about a doctor at an abortion clinic being murdered by pro-life activists, I was absolutely horrified. Why take a life of an individual who has a family, a career, and is already walking the earth to protect the rights of unborn fetuses? Abslutely ridiculous!
Abortion is a necessary choice for many women, albeit a sad one.

"If you cannot, absolutely cannot, afford to take care of a baby, then there is no reason you should bring a child into this world if it will not have every chance for a good normal life that any other child has."
You know what, you are absolutely right. However, abortion is not the appropriate response to this problem. The mature and responsible solution is to not get pregnant in the first place. I already know that the immediate response is going to be that sometimes protection doesn't work and that is true. However, if you have already made the decision to be sexually active (a decision that should be made with great thought) then you should know that there is a chance at getting pregant. If that happens, you should be responsible for the consequences of your own actions.
My point is that abortion should be used in cases of incest, rape and for medical reasons. Abortion should not be used as a form of birth control, which it most frequently is being used as. If you are not responsible enough, stable enough and mature enough to handle having a child, then you should not be having sex.
I understand you frustration about your position.
But just think about the other person's position a little bit more. For those that think abortion is murder, allowing abortion is like allowing murder. You would be telling them not to commit murder (which they don't think is okay) and just sit by and watch as thousands of people are murdered. So, imagine the most immoral thing that you can imagine- and then imagine someone telling you that should just not participate in it and allow it to exist.
A child conceived by rape or consent is the same; the fetus would be the same as well and would equally have not choice in the manner that they were conceived. The trauma of the mother is the only thing that is different. This is an extension of the acceptability of termination solely by circumstance, and the whether or not the fetus is considered as valid as another because of that circumstance. Only a small percentage of abortions are because of circumstances such as these, but nonetheless are an important point.
Not all pro-life people are doctor-murdering insane criminals. (Less doctors have been killed by pro-lifer than fetuses have been terminated by those doctors, even. It is very sad that some doctors have been killed (which you agree with emotionally), but back to the first paragraph imagine how normal pro-lifers here that a man is killed and still what they consider to be murder if happening in the thousands).
A fetus does not share blood or tissue with the mother; it is not a technical part of the mother and not a part of her body. They are two separate entities. If one wants to argue that a woman has the right to do what she wants with HER body, the fetus is not part of her body. The only distinction one could argue is that a woman should be able to have reproductive rights or have a choice of what is in her body, the the argument remains about reproductive rights and the rights of the woman to the extent of possibly infringing on the rights of the fetus.
Abortion can be defined as termination of a fetus that would have otherwise lived. If a pregnancy if going to kill the mother and child, of course one can't save only the fetus as it is not yet viable without the mother. There are some groups that think even fallopian tube pregnancies as a reason for medically needed abortion are wrong, but hey, that's their "meant to happen" philosophy. There is medically needed abortion, miscarriage related abortion, and then there is abortion for purposeful intent of termination.
Thanks for your imput, you guys make valid points. But, what I'm trying to get across is that abortion should be a legal option, and it's up to a woman to decide. You can't just say..."Abortion is wrong, but sometimes its okay..." It's either legal or its not, but since some cases exist like rape and medical complications, you have to allow for those cases to be handled.
As a lawyer, I can certainly say that most things in the law are certaintly not black and white. Even as the law stands right now, abortion is not legal ALL THE TIME, only during the first 23 weeks of pregnancy. After that, it is illegal. There are more laws than I can count that make things illegal, but provide for exceptions in certain circumstances. Therefore, your point about either being legal or illegal is simply not supported. There is absolutely no reason why there can't be a law that says . . . "Abortion at any point in a pregnancy is hereby prohibited by law except when it is medically necessary to save the life of the mother or when the mother is carrying a fetus that is the product of incest or rape."
It's really easy and the right thing to do.
