Since no one on here actually knows me let me start off by saying that odds are most of my blogs are gonna have some sort of twisted sense of humor. So, to kick things off right, I have included the following Top Ten most frequently searched words on the NYTimes.com website:
number one, no real shocker there, I mean, who doesn't search the NYTimes website for those juicey sex stories? ...anyone? ...just me?.... But Kentucky Derby.... over Iraq, Virginia Tech, and Global Warming...? I admit, I know nothing about the Kentucky Derby, and I have nothing against it, I'm sure it's a great thing if that's what you're into, but the fact that it ranks higher than three very big issues in our society today is just... well... a bit shocking to me. Is anyone else with me on this or did I just miss the boat?

That isn't nearly as bad when you look at yahoo.com's top 10 searches...
1. American Idol
2. Spider-Man 3

4. NBA
5. Paris Hilton
6. Mother's Day
7. WWE
8. Hi-5
9. Avril Lavicne
10. Beyonce Knowles

*Sigh*
This is really really really depressing. This isn't the top ten entertainment searches...No...This is the top ten Overall searches. It just seem like the normal everyday person just does not give a shit about what's going on in the world...Unless it evolves Britney or Paris...

I think most people just don't care enough about current events to be bothered to actually read anything about them. After all, learning facts about things could shatter their carefully held conceptions of the world and collapse their house of cards. Ignorance is bliss, and I really think that most people don't monitor current events in any detail because they're afraid to know things that would change their worldview.
On a slightly related fictional note, read about the concept of Fnord and it will explain a lot.

I guess pokemon were more important than mothers day in April.
It's interesting to see what lame things end up on these lists for highly-searched words. Although, some I wouldn't searched myself if I'd thought about it. Like maybe for a blog entry on Progressive U.
I remember hearing something related to this. The Most-Asked Question on Jeeves.com is "Jeeves, are you married?"
We live in a weird time, everybody.
I wrote a blog about how sex and drugs are overpowering our youth and just about everybody else. This is a great thing I can use in a future blog. But it goes to show you what people are really thinking about.

Glad you had something interesting to add to the conversation. Jesus appreciates you.

Kentucky Derby was probably searched for because when the queen came to visit, she watched it. The Queen coming to the US is kind of a big thing.
The fact that a lot of people heard about Virginia Tech, and probably read about it on the front page in the days following the massacre, would tend to reduce the number of people searching for it.
