Exercise does a body good.

Exercise. Such a small word for such a large commitment.

I am a freshman in college and until last August, I had been in soccer and swimming since I could walk practically. I got to college and worked out with my friends for the first month. Then that was it. I never gained weight after I stopped working out, but I lost my shape and tone. I didn't really care because I am not the type of girl to really worry about what others think. Then December rolled around and I started feeling rather heavy, as in weighed down. I didn't want to do anything that required effort. So I made a resolution on January 1st, I would become healthy again!

It is now March and I am in shape (better than ever) and I even lost 9 pounds. I feel great! I did it all healthily too. I never realized how much exercise can help a person. We all know it creates endorphins, but I had no idea. This last month of my life has probably been the worst, and had I been without a gym, I probably wouldn't be so happy.

I wish that people realized what a stress-reliever working out can be. I feel like I am mentally handling things better and feel happier. I take the stairs instead of ramps or escalators, and I wake up refreshed rather than groggy.

I found this information from the website http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/take_care/exercise_wise.html:

Exercise benefits every part of the body, including the mind. Exercising causes the body to produce endorphins, chemicals that can help a person to feel more peaceful and happy. Exercise can help some people sleep better. It can also help some people who have mild depression and low self-esteem. Plus, exercise can give people a real sense of accomplishment and pride at having achieved a certain goal — like beating an old time in the 100-meter dash.

Now get up and get out there!

This is all so true! I remember when I went to the gym January 2nd- It was packed. I normally worked out in the company of 3-4 others, now there were at least 20. Sadly, it was back to normal about 2 weeks later. If only everyone had the dedication to work out every day, the entire US would be so much healthier. I seriously think it would help to reduce healthcare costs.
cheers!
