I'm just wrapping up my first semester of college, so I figured I'd list what I think is a good idea to bring to school! I was going to list them all in a reply to someone's blog, but I figured I'd blog about it instead.
*Ear plugs - I guarantee there will be at least one point in time that you will be glad that you have them.
*Posters - walls are WAY too blah without them. You'll come up with other ideas on how to cover the walls throughout your time, but it's nice to have something right away.
*A desk lamp - roomates with earlier bed times than you can be crabby about having the big light on
*At least 2 sets of sheets - One flannel, one thin. Your roomate could insist on having it 90 degrees, or 50 degrees so you want to be prepared.
*A day planner - Keeps track of all the crap you have to do.
*A calendar - Reminds you of the stuff you have to do when you forget to check that day planner.
*Air freshener - believe me. Just believe me.
*An Alarm clock - kind of a duh, but I forgot one LOL
*A dictionary - I've used mine a couple of times
*Those plastic milk(?) crates - I've used mine as food storage, organizing, and I got some mini ones that I stacked
beside the TV to hold my DVD's.
*Small tupperware containers - Work well for organizing the junk drawers
*Dishes - If you feel like washing them in a bathroom-sized skink, otherwise you can opt for paper plates. I'd still
recomend a normal bowl or two. And a knife that will cut stuff(that sounds funny, lol).
*Address Book - Keeps you in touch with friends.
*Phone book from back home - You never know where/who you're going to need to get ahold of.
*Message board/cork board - I'm sure if I had friends, this would come in handy :P
*Scissors - You'd be amazed.
*Tape - Same as scissors
*A laptop - Usually schools have computers available to you if you don't have a laptop, but it's so much easier to have your own if you can. It kills time, and makes it easier for the "Oh-shit-I-forgot-this-assignment-that's-due-tomorrow" moments. Because, let's face it, how many times have you said you'd get up in the morning to do something, and then never did it?
*Extra socks, underwear - When you're having to haul your laundry all over the place to get it done, you realise how many times you can wear jeans before they're dirty. Socks and underwear do not work the same way, so bring pleanty.
*Medicine - Tylenol, Midol, Sleeping pills (if you're like me), Morning cold pills, Nighttime cold pills, Cough syrup....just stock up because you're probably going to get sick at some time, and having to go get the medicine for yourself when you're sick sucks.
*Shout Wipes - these have many uses. Cleaning off shoes, wiping up the mysterious sticky spots on the floor, whatever. Oh, they take spots off clothes too.
*Windex - It cleans everything
*Paper towels - You'll need 'em.
*A rug - It will get dirty too. But it's nice to have. From personal experience I do not recommend a black shag one.
*A broom & dustpan - It's amazing how much fuzzies and dust acumulates on the dorm room floor.
*Munchies - I would say to bring some along with you. When you've wasted all of your money on things that you can't remember what you even bought, it's nice to have some food there already. It's not always possible to get to the cafeteria when its open, either, so keeping something in your room to feed you is a good idea.
*Shoe closet organizer - One of the ones you hang inside the closet. When you actually put your shoes away it's nice. Otherwise you'll be tripping over them everywhere.
Hmmm...that's all I can think of right now :)

Haha, very cool. Thanks for the tips! I am about to embark upon my first sememster in college in the fall. I don't think I will be running into alot of the problems you've been havings being that I am going to be staying at home. Although, I am POSITIVE that the information would have helped me if I was to live in a dorm.
You made me laugh too. I can hear your personality through what you wrote. Thanks for the giggle!
So check out my VERY FIRST blog! And when you do stop by, tell me what you think! =D I am eager to hear of people's opinions!
