My friend and I were driving to the And 1 Allstar basketball tournament Easter evening located in Springfield, Illinois. As we came up to a red light i noticed a man sitting on a bench. He had a shaggy, ungroomed beard and clothes that looked as though there were more holes than threads. He had a single garbage bag that was placed beside him containing atleast one more weathered outfit. It was positioned on the bench as though he had used it as a pillow the night before. He held up a sign that read "Hungry, Need Help." As i finished reading his sign, the light turns green-but i didn't care. My friend and I naturally got out of our cars and gave him more than enough money to see him through the week. Cars were honking and people were yelling, but i didn't care. All i cared about was helping this man who was obviously in need. He graciously thanked us and murmered sumthin that i later understood as "God Bless You." Later on that evening, after the game, we drove by B&Js hair salon and spa to pick up one of our friends. As we were there, a lady (obviously wealthy) came strutting out with her new hair style and her perfect make up with her perfectly manicured nails. The lady at the counter rang up her total -$665- Normally i would just think that she had a lot of money to spend, lucky her; however, i could not help but to think of how if she just gave up ONE trip to the hair salon and donated her money to charity or gave it to some poor man like we had, how much better off these people would be. It's odd how people with little money tend to say "if i was rich i would donate my money and take homeless people off the streets." and how some rich people with tons of money to provide, could care less....
