Politics, Politics, Politics.

Sometimes I get so fed up with politics.

I have heard people talking about how if Obama wins this Presidency that he will make white people become slaves. People talk about if Hillary becomes President we are basiclaly screwed. I haven't heard much about the other Party because there is no drama with him, at least in my own knowledge. Maybe he is a trash talker, maybe that's what I heard.

The reason that I don't know is because I don't listen much. Most of it seems like a big jumbled mess and until I have two people to choose from, I kinda have put thinking about this on the back burner. Sometimes I think I am being close-minded and other times I think I am being ignorant. The truth of the matter is, is that at school when men and women come up to me and ask me to sign petitions, I sign them if I believe in them.
I don't know what I believe in for this Presidency; I know that I don't want this country to fall apart.

I signed one the other day for better treatment of animals. I declined in signing one about letting people drink on my beautiful San Diego beaches.

I know that I need to start paying attention to this whole Presidency election for 2008 because I am 18 and I am a regestered voter. Besides, as they say, MY vote count; every vote counts. I just feel so exhausted trying to cut through all the drama and the he-said she-said bull and get down to the truth.

Can anyone give a non-biased run down of these candidates? Everyone has picked their side and if you ask questions most of the time you will be bombarded with why whoever they are voting for is amazing and why I should change my mind and vote for them or something along those lines.

In short, I don't like politics. I don't like to get involved, but I know that I must soon. And, I am tired of hearing about all the drama. I just want some facts so I can figure out who I can entrust my vote in to run the USA efficiently and safely while keeping some values that this country is based on.

Andre says we should move to Brazil.
So... I guess that's another option.

One of three people will be president in 2008. Those people are Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, and John McCain. Personally, I will be voting for McCain in the general election, but only because he is not as bad as other candidates in my view, not because he's good. Anyway, on with the unbiased information. If Barack Obama wins, white people will not be slaves, and if Hilary Clinton wins, we might or might not be "screwed" depending on the individuals and their interpretation of "screwed". In other words, suppose a group of 100 people knew everything that Hilary would do as president and they could see four years into the future and the state that our country would be in. Some of those people would like how things looked while others would say, "we're screwed". John McCain is the candidate that I prefer, so I will not go into detail about him so that you are able to get a fair analysis, but I will recommend that you visit his website along with the sites of Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama in order to learn what these candidates want you to know about themselves. You may have already done that, but if you haven't, I highly recommend doing so. Also, the site ontheissues.org has some fabulous information about where these candidates (and many other public officials) stand on the issues that are important (taxes, gun control, environment, abortion are just a few). This site uses information from the candidates themselves about the issues from speeches and whatnot. So, take abortion for instance, under that category it's not going to say pro-life or pro-abortion but rather it will give you some one-liners about that person on the subject to allow you to go more in-depth than just black and white, yes or no. For most issues, you will get a true feeling of where that person really stands on things that are important to you. Well, I hope that I helped somewhat and I am so happy to see another young person wanting to take part in politics and a very important election. I am nineteen and my friends don't want to have anything to do with "boring politics". So, good luck with your research!

As much as you dislike being involved in politics (I feel your pain in regards to the drama) it's really your responsibility to take initiative in researching the candidates and their platforms. If you do the homework yourself, it will mean more to you personally than if someone else "tells you how it is." IMHO. Some springboard websites:
Barak Obama
Hillary Clinton
John McCain

Do a quick Google search, find out how they stand on issues that are important to you, and vote accordingly. And depending who wins, don't move to Brazil - come with me to Australia. ; )

Yes, I'm also not very knowledgeable about US politics. But I keep a close eye on the current Presidential race, as my teachers suggested. Although, I'm not a citizen of this country yet, I believe none of the candidates are good enough to be elected the president of the US for 2008. During and after the Great Depression, the former president Franklin Delano Roosevelt handled the economic turmoil in the country well that people elected him four times. After the current Bush Administration's incapability to handle the ongoing fear of possible recession that is to come or have come, as some experts say, a strong, capable president should be elected who can take the country from possible recession to economic stability and reduce the national debt. In my view, Hillary Clinton is the best option from McCain or Obama. Since she has experience of being the first lady before and saw how Bill Clinton took the country from possible recession of 1994 to economic growth. After all, everything that matters is the economic growth of the US which can have ripple effect in improving the economic hardship that the whole world is experiencing.
