A Test Amongst Itself

I often ponder the possibilities of human nature. With the ability and will to create, we have mastered the art of the automobile, computer, television, and technology itself. To even dream of what the future holds is unfathomable. Fruitful as we are, we are far from perfect. Generation after generation, technological advance after technological advance, we inch closer to perfection. From black and white TV's to plasma screens. From walkmans to iPods. We do nothing but ask for the perfect, the perfected, and the perfection. But what is perfect? What is this term that orbits are every move. IT is impossible. Impossible? If perfection is impossible, then IT is far from perfect! IT is a paradox, and through irony, perfection is almost oxymoronic of its true being. But yet, we feed for perfection. Why? Because we are far from perfect. Through evolution and genetic diversity, offspring with the most favorable traits have survived and reproduced, while those with less favorable don't. This natural selection process is a huge genetic perfecting machine! Through time, the human race naturally betters itself. But we will never be perfect.

WHY??

because
Perfection, itself, is an asymptote, and we are but the X and the Y; never being able to reach it.

I don't think it's perfection so much that we strive for with all these new technological advances, but convenience. Convenience and an inflated ego because our new product is shinier than that other guy's.

The reason companies keep coming out with new products is so they can stay ahead of the competition. Ipods were awesome, and then came new, cheaper mp3 players that did the same thing and let you replace the battery. So Ipod advanced to play videos, became the Ipod shuffle, etc. And now that other companies are doing the same thing with their products, Ipod needed yet another addition, so the Iphone was created... along with the Helio, LG Dare, Samsung Instinct, and the Blackberry Curve. I'm looking forward to drooling over a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. I hope it comes in orange.

I can't wait to see what comes out next.

Very true. But with the goals of achieving capital, commercial conglomerates cannot disregard the underlying, inevitable goal of producing consumer-friendly goods and services. Although perfection does not seem to be the direct aim of these capitalist giants, it is undoubtedly sought after through the increasing "need" and demand for convenience.

Somehow i feel as though convenience is not so much a necessity, but a product of mankind's fusion of intellectual inclination and indolence. Whatever, I am content with the Age of Technological Convenience, for it is all I know.
