a poem one of my friends wrote.

This will be the second blog i've had to go back and edit, but to preserve the original essence, i'll leave what i wrote before as is and simply add to the beginning.

This is something my friend Josh wrote when he was a couple years younger but i read it only a few months ago. I think it is the most beautiful poem i've read (that any of my peers have written). It is a great poem that goes on to show that guys can be romantic too, that they're not all the same and that they have feelings just the way girls do. This poem is something i'm sure everyone can relate to (i know i did) and get something out of.

Before i knew that there were "nice guys" out there, but it was a kind of thought that is simply in the back of my mind and i never took seriously. I had a more general image for guys, the one that says they're only after one thing.. and they're all jerks. After reading his poem, i realized that we are very much alike, i often feel like that "half blind crow."

I hope you guys appreciate it as much as i did, and maybe give guys a chance (if you didn't before) to prove that they are just as human as we are and can love the same way we can.

Although he says he wrote it his sophmore year and is currrently a senior, i feel like i can still relate to everything he says. When i initially read this poem it was a catalyst to the wonderful friendship we have now, but instead of merely telling you about his wonderful poem i think i should just let you read it (i hope this isn't plagiarism, since i'm acknowledging that he wrote it) :

Cardinal and the Crow

It appears that every light shines on you

When you fly up so high

Everyone smiles as you pass them by

Your whistles and tweets sound ever so sweet

Even though we often meet I still wish to fly as fast as you

I still wish to sing as sweet as you, to bear the crest as proud as you

Rather than caw a hoarse tune

One day I pray

To glow as red as you

Instead of being clad in black from beak to talon

My voice is raspy and deep

While yours is high and neat

You eat seeds from old ladies in a park bench

And I scavenge for food in a garbage trench

Bird watchers come from far around in search of you

Yet if they see me they simply turn blue and curse at me

I strike fear, suspicion and worry into those who stand weary

While you pour love, hope and happiness among your fans

If only others admired me as they do you

Unlike other birds and fowl

You don't fly down to the south

Down to Orlando and Daytona

In the bitter cold of winter you fight on harder then ever

Because you plan to leave your home never

I admire from afar, in a run down barn

Your beautiful red feathers stand out among the snow and mistletoe

To kiss you I wish

To do I never dare

Even though I hold you very rare

You will always be in my greatest care

Without you my world would be ever so blue

In return my heart will always be true

Especially towards you

You are truly my greatest friend

I wish to fly with you until the very end

A bird so bright and fair

Yet so beautiful and rare

I ask you to treat this young crow with care

For a heart like this is also very rare

I wish that for at least one day

To fly just like you

To sing that breathtaking song you always do

To flap the same colored wings down the path you always do

Instead I am a very bizarre crow

Cawing at every sin in sight

Reminding everyone of their very own

I am proud to be the good friend of this, incredible cardinal

So I ask before you go

To listen to this half blind crow:

Hold on to those who you care for so dear

Not only to your companions very near

But also to birds who bear a different feather

You may look up to your friends

Just try not to be jealous of them

As the crow was to the cardinal

Take great care of your friends

As the crow does to the cardinal

I just want the reader to know

That this poem has a double meaning

Even if at first that's not what you were seeing

As you may know

I am the crow

Compared to the cardinal

I am physically stronger

Yet I am emotionally weaker

Because I continuously dream of

That familiar phrase that everyone has heard of

They say it's called "True Love"

For the cardinal

She just has to find the suitor of her choice

You can say its as simple as finding a driver for a classic Rolls Royce

As for the crow

It may seem impossible

Perhaps it is

My heart has been torn apart by lies

Luckily, it's still held together by plastic Zip Ties

This crow's heart has gotten calloused through the years

Yet he still feels pain

The crow looks up to the cardinal

Because he wishes to live a life that would surely never be his

Although the crow did not know

That as beautiful as the cardinal may be

She still flies against the same winds

That she too fears true love

That she wonders if she would ever love again

That she to has been scarred by love

Perhaps she looks up to the crow?

The answer to that question we may never know

It has seemed that love for the cardinal would come very easy

Now we all know

That a scar can come very easy

Perhaps beauty isn't the only key to love

But a heart of gold

And as beautiful as the cardinal may be

Then I guess there is still some hope for me

:| I wish that my best friend (and boyfriend) would write something like that for me!!! it reminds me so much of our relationship. I'm sure that your crow is every bit as sensative as his poem, and that your relationship though perhaps separated by a different feather will blossom even more.
Never let the world get you further down, it already has the weight of gravity on your shoulders.

It's a really good poem. You should let your friend know that it's here and that it's getting a good reception.

I like the fact that you talked a little about the poem, because some people post poems and think that's enough for a Progressive blog entry. I think maybe you could have explained a little bit more why it belongs on this site, but it was still an interesting read. I think it is very relatable for the average reader.

I can relate to what he says in his poem. It stirs a very deep and primitive feeling in those who read it and I think that everyone has felt this way at one time or another.

WoW...*tear* that poem was really really touching....it was jus great. Some things in that poem was true in my own life it taught me something too. He should publish it or something so no one plagarizes and calls it their own. He is a very good poet, tell him to continue writing its awesome.
