As an avid video game player, I feel regulation of video games is ludicrous. Being over 18, any laws regulating sales to minors would not affect me, but that does not stop me from seeing the complete stupidity of the whole process. What ever happened to parenting? Do we really need the government to raise our children for us? No! Give me a break.
Okay parents, this is easy, when your kids want to play a game that is rated beyond their age (say M rated game), don't just blindly buy it for them. Read the back of the game case, it usually gives a hint to what is inside. The ESRB rating should help as well. Kids somehow manage to bring a game home without you knowing, check in on what they are playing. Don't use video games as a way to pacify your children. Explain to them why certain games are not for them.
Afraid video games are going to turn little Billy into a violent killing machine? Make sure to explain to him that video games are not real, and that things in them should not always be done in real life.
Don't be afraid to make your kids hate you a little. You're not their friend, you're their parent. You don't need to smother them, but don't just let them do whatever they want.
