I am the most conservative!

I decided it would be in my best interest to watch the most recent
Republican debate on Fox, because I am trying to get perspective from all
parties and all candidates. This upcoming Presidential Election will be the
first I participate in, and I want to be well educated and informed so I can
make the decision that best suits me. Well, I unpleasantly witnessed in a good
chunk of the debate a juvenile argument over who was the most conservative
candidate!

Is that really what the republicans and have reduced the election to? Who is
most conservative? Giuliani claimed he was more "conservative" than
Thompson, going on about his so called "conservative" actions as
Mayor of NYC; he took porn out of time square! Wow, some one give the man a
parade! Apparently, that makes you more "conservative" than everyone
else! I am so sorry, I thought doing something like that simply meant you were
a good person with character and a good sense of morality, but apparently it is
much more important to use it as a tool for proving how conservative you are.

And why was Wallace (the host for those of you who don't know) pitting the
candidates against each other to stake claim as the most conservative
candidate? That does not make you, in my opinion, the best candidate for
presidency. Though, I understand they were trying to make a point that they
were up-standing citizens with high morality and all those very important qualities,
which is not what the debates are for! Debates are not meant to sit around and
talk about how great you are and all of your "conservative" actions.
They don't even go so far as to explain why being the most conservative makes
you the best candidate, they just assume it makes them so.

When I sat down to watch that debate I was hoping to see intellectual debate
over important issues our country is facing, and though they did touch on some
of them, they certainly discouraged me in the opening (as a party) by standing
around arguing over who is the most "conservative" in a fashion
similar to that of school-girls arguing over who is the prettiest.

He he..., I don't know why they bother.

It isn't the most conservative that'd get the nod, if it was, that'd be Duncan Hunter.

Instead, it tends to go to the more liberal one. Likely Rudy. Maybe Mitt or Fred as the VP.

However, it is important to note that Rudy is NOT a conservative, as his actions as mayor shows.

He did cut crime in NYC... but kept the gun-control policies in place (and, in fact, he's for gun control),.... he cut crime by giving police VERY vast powers, which was later taken away from them.

His appointed judges as mayor were so liberal that even the liberals in nyc didn't question them.

He was very lax on illegal immigration and as mayor opposed bills that sought to reign in ILLEGAL immigration, believing that the illegal immigrant should be granted rights as though they were here legally.

time and time again, he has shown his liberal colors... for him to call himself conservative would be like me calling myself liberal.

He is Liberman with an R after his name. That's all.

But, he's one of the most liberal republicans running, so he is who the press will fawn over until the primaries are done. (Then they'll turn into attack dogs)

Interesting.......

What else are they going to talk about? The race for this election started way to early. The next one might be about who has the best hair.

Remember that the election cycle started on the heels of the 06 elections, BY the democrats who wanted to try to ride the wave.

That's when Hillary and the rest started all their public appearances.

I figure that starting next month we can start the 2012 election cycle.

yeah I know.... I should just go ahead and register to run for 2024.

Heh, why not? For a couple years now I've been telling people:

Lance Kates for President in 2016.

No freakin' way.

engkatiemarie for President in 2020... seriously... I'll straighten this country out. ; )

Member of the Progressive U Alumni Association

you'll have to push that to 2024. I plan on winning in 2016 and 2020.

President Bush only has daughters, neither of which have expressed interest in running for president. I am guessing you're talking about his brother Jeb, which MAY happen, but I don't think he'd have a serious shot at it.

No, Jeb Bush the former Governor of FL.

Ok... you are driving me nuts.

There is a reply button for a reason. Use it. I'm surprised the moderators haven't already informed you.

Now, do you say that because you've heard he may run or because you think there is a vast right wing conspiracy that seeks to make the Bush family into a new dynasty?

Because I heard he may run.

Well, right now, the Republicans, or old school republicans, feel as though their party has left their conservative roots. They want a president who will stand for conservative philosophies which is basically four things: a strong border, strong military, preservation of American culture, and preservation of the English language. These are conservative ideals. On the opposite side, the left, or liberals, their philosophies are very different. They want open borders with Mexico, a weak Military, want to rewrite our cultural values such as no God anywhere and gay marriage, and as far as English goes...they want voting ballots to be in different languages.

So you have your left and right.

Right now, it looks as though Fred Thompson is the head conservative runner now.

sophiafelder's picture

good for him, but my point was I was disappointed at the opening of the debate because that's a silly thing to talk about, and they were "proving it" by talking about all the conservative actions they have taken, none of which had to do with the English language or the border or anything substantial! Like I said, I thought it was juvenile. They could have had a much stronger opening, and really when it comes down to it, the host was trying to stir trouble by bringing up bad things Thompson said about the other candidates, we all know they talk smack about each other; but they certainly did a good job of curve-balling the questions and just talking about themselves rather than actually debating.

I have to agree with you... it seems as though all politicians have fallen into this comparison against one another instead of focusing on their accomplishments or what they plan to do to address the issues facing our nation.

It'd be nice to see some real leaders step up to the plate for a change.

That'd be Duncan Hunter. However, both the Left and the Press are afraid of giving him airtime as he is to the right of Rudy.
