Let's spend some time on the soldiers and a great website-- Iraq Veterans Against the War.
These are an amazing group of people. Many of them travel around the country to end the war and to stop the use of Depleted Uraniam. Some of these people suffer injuries and suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Some even carry the Depleted Uranium in their system.
But for right now, I want to draw your attention to Augustin Aguayo.
He's a consciencious objecter.
This is the first military conscientious objector case to come before the powerful and influential D.C. Circuit Court in the 35 years since the Vietnam War. According to Agustín's attorneys, the decision of the court in Agustín's case "will likely profoundly influence the willingness of the civilian courts to question the Executive's refusal to honor the right of U.S. military personnel to exercise their freedom of religion, including the right -- in accordance with conscience -- not to participate in war."
Aguayo may find himself in prison for his consciencous objection.
On a similar note, many serving also object to this war and are asking for redress. The Appeal for Redress is an opportunity for these service members to appeal to their Congressional Representative and US Senators and to urge an end to the U.S. military occupation.
This is what is awesome!
The Appeal messages will be delivered to members of Congress on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January 2007. You can sign it here if you are in the military.
This story goes right to the heart of the idea that you have to support the President by supporting the war. The military knows it. And even that Army Time's article to ditch Rumsfeld shows they know it too. The only ones who don't know it, or pretend not to know it, are the President, and the enabling Republicans.
They deserve competence. And they deserve to be treated like human beings instead of being treated as campaign fodder.
Support our troops with MORE than just a bumper sticker or magnet. There's a reason so many of the troops coming home support Democrats, and support peace.

Thnking of Iraq, just saw this and probably can't post it without copying the whole thing.
please look.

I am also a member of IVAW and will be attending the 22nd Annual Veterans For Peace Convention as a member of the IVAW contingent next week. I appreciate you bringing attention to our site and our cause.

I indeed attended the IVAW convention last month and had the pleasure of meeting Augustin and several other conscientious objectors, a role I may seek soon. IVAW is growing everyday, with about twenty new members every week. Sit-Rep, the IVAW newsletter, is being published for the first time this week, and we are getting more and more press. Thanks again for bringing attention to our cause.
