My Idea of Progress

I have been thinking for a few days now about my definition of Progress. I couldn't think of a concrete idea until today at school when, of course, I wasn't near a computer. Low and behold, I forgot my idea until midnight, but here it is.

Progress is taking what you learn from your environment and people surrounding you and using it to productively pass on teachings or make a difference in our society.

I believe what we learn is important to pass on to our society so that not only as indiviuals but as a whole, we can reap the benefits of different ideas and opinions. We become progressive when we put in the effort to make a difference with what we know. If we have the skill to help in a political campaign and we sit at home, how does that progress anything? It doesn't.

Being proactive is a very important aspect in making progress. How can you create progress by doing nothing about what you know? If every person could take their knowledge and skill they have that relates to the different issues in todays society, that would be the end of the progressive era. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. Only a few of us are willing to push towards progress, to pass on our learnings.

Applying our abilities and knowledge to a fight for a cause, equality and even rights, is more important than we could ever know. So I say the time is here for our society to be progressive.

"Progress is taking what you learn from your environment and people surrounding you and using it to productively pass on teachings or make a difference in our society."

- I love your definition of progress. You put it into words really well. Also, I love how you pointed out that every individual needs to use their own personal ABILITIES to make our world progressive.

However, I have to comment on the political campaign part, because not everything in our world and being progressive has necessarily to do with politics only. I don't think that is what you were trying to say, but I just thought I would throw it out there anyway.

Thank you! I am glad you liked it. :]

And yes I realize poiltics are not the only relation to progression but that was the first example that popped into my mind. I see where that could be misinterpreted though.

I like that you mention the campaign. A lot of us sit at home, watch the tv and complain about politics and how if we were in office we would do this or that. But like you said one way of progressing is going out there and supporting who you are rooting for because one person can make a difference. Now if we all could just be more progressive about our lives ......

Yes, i just figured at a time like this the campaign was a good example. And really, if we could be progressive ourselves, imagine how progressive we could be in our society!
