with today society tattoos are being widely recognized as works of art through shows on television such as Miami Ink and other tattoo shows. there is still a stereotype where that any person that gets a tattoo is gangster, troublemaker, and a rebel. I think that a tattoo artist should be recognized like any other artist, painters such as da vinci. The skill needed to be able to sketch such detailed drawings then putting it onto a human body is not something that can be easily obtained. Getting a tattoo in this day and age are not only done because of being in a gang. Lot of people do it to prove their love to someone, as a memorial to a loved one that past on or someone they respected, a symbol to show a new beginning, or just because they think that a tattoo is something really interesting. I personally have always wanted to get a tattoo every since I was in middle school. After seeing a tattoo on a person I was just intrigued by it and I plan to eventually get a tattoo when I reach the age of 18. Should society be more open and not be so judgmental?
tattoos- Vulgar or works of ART?

I love tattoos...i have quite a few myself, and i have a lot of respect for tattoo artists and consider the majority of them fellow artists. However, do not be deceived. I myself am somewhere in between, I design tattoos for people but have never actually performed the act of giving a tattoo, i just recommend the shop or artist. Some of these "artists" know nothing at all of drawing, painting, or have any skill with a pen or pencil or any medium that you can think of. I've seen many beautiful tattoo designs brutalized by skill deprived "tattoo artists" so dont give them all of the glory.
My first tattoo was of a really small tribal butterfly on my left wrist...my mom was cool with it but my dad was appalled. Luckily i dont give much of a damn for my father so i just dusted it off, but youre right. The older generation is what's deeming tattoos as only being had by lowlives...thugs...and dropouts, but we're in a new time (im 20 by the way). Our generation has widely accepted tattoos and its become what i like to call a "permanent fad" because...obviously tatts are for life but it seems everyone wants one just because. And thats cool...but i dunno, i guess im just an old fashioned artist and everything has to have meaning for me.

i think society will accept it just because so many young people are doing it now. its going to be rare to see someone not have a tattoo
I concur.

Whether society is going to accept the fact that people get tattoos or not is irrelevant. People will think what they think, and nothing will ever change that. The plain simple fact is that if a person wants a tattoo, they're going to get one, and half the time they won't give a second thought to what the rest of the world is going to say. It is an expression through art.
Never let the world get you further down, it already has the weight of gravity on your shoulders.
i have about 6 tattoos...i love them...my tattoos chronicle important moments in my life, so i will probably add to them.....
However, i do think that people should show good judgement in WHERE on their body they get tattoos.
I guess i just don't see the whole gangster stereotype thing. i have a huge tattoo on my back, and I get complements from all walks of life.
I think that you shouldn't worry about others opinions. If you really want your tattoo at whatever location, go with it. It's your body. Do you want to work for a company that won't let you be yourself or wants to hide who you are to the rest of the world? I don't.
