Mike Gravel for '08

This is exactly what it appears from the title. It is campaign promotion for Mike Gravel, democratic presidential candidate, in the 2008 election. Although I think Hillary would do an okay job, and Obama would do a better job, despite his youth and inexperience, I ultimately feel that Mike Gravel would be the best choice for President in 2008. Now, many of my friends have pointed out that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are battling odds running for president as a female candidate and a Black candidate. These observations are true, but I feel that Bush has f**ked up so much that our country will be open to new perspectives, especially those that exhibit diverstiy. So, Clinton and Obama still have a chance at victory. Yet, I still back Gravel because, as I informed my friends, he has it all going for him. He is an older, Caucausian male (not a female), who has experience in the Senate and working with other countries. He also foiled Nixon and uncovered the Pentagon Papers in the 70s, so he has experience bringing the corruption of government to light. He plans to eliminate the electoral college and the income tax, replacing it with a national sales tax. He also plans to re-fund the Social Security fund by cutting other, discretionay spending in unnecessary programs, and he will enact an immediate withdrawal to U.S. troops in Iraq. With a list like that, how could I not support him? If it wasn't for the damn electoral college, Bush wouldn't have won in 2000 and gotten the country tied into the quagmire of the Iraq War. I'm just for improving democracy by enacting the direct vote from the public: popular sovereignty. Anyway, the electoral college was only needed when America was a country of a bunch of illiterate farmers who couldn't vote if it was as easy as breathing. Now, America is developed, arguably one of the most economically stable countries in the world, so our citizens, who recieve such "good" educations (Bush's "no child left behind" statement), should be allowed to directly influence our government by deciding on Presidential candidates.

And he wants to lower the drinking age to 18, one of the most sensible policy changes ever. Even Obama said no to lowering the drinking age which is pretty outrageous coming from a guy who used to do lines of coke in college . . . what hypocrisy!
