I never knew the weigh in Gold family had on one another's worth. We all come from something no matter what you believe in be it a greater God or simply a mother who was ready to welcome you into your life to share with those she loved. You were completely alone when you entered this world. You needed someone to feed you and change you ,help you walk and teach you to fly. You began to learn you had nothing to fear because these parents loved you. They would never let you fly alone. They nurtured you taught you right from wrong and tried to see that you did the right thing. They gave you an education .Maybe not at an ivy leagues school but they passed on everything they learned from their parents and life experience. They gave you all they had.
Then one day it was time for you to fly. If you failed they encouraged you to get back up,spread your wings and fly again. They were there to catch you when you fell. They never let you land hard and alone. They stood by giving you time until you asked for a hand up.Then they gracefully walked away leaving you to know your home is always there.
When a loved one needs help trying to do every day things ,why knowing what we know about what our parents had done for us .do we want to pass them on to strangers?
Today in my father in laws eyes I saw a joyfilled moment when he spun the logs down the river with a lesson included in how not to get wet. All the while my 6 year old is opening his drink for him and wiping his chin. This is the first time I had seen him happy in a long time.
This feeble old man who once stopped a mule with his barehands trembled as he walked carefully up the steps to the resterant he had bounced his kids up many times before. His steps are slow and unsteady but his spirit believes he can run just as well as he could as a young man.
"I feel joy" he says with a smile. He sits at the table and smiles at the little girl wipping the catsup off his face.
This is the man who gave my husband everything. Today he is passing on the greatest thing of all. His wisdom to those he loves.
