I don't know about anywhere else, but my local newspaper has been printing a lot of articles about women needing to vote for Hilary Clinton. It drives me nuts! Just because I am a woman I should vote for a female president? What if she is not what is best for our country? I am not going to vote for a president based on gender or race alone. I am going to vote for whom I think will represent our country the best. Could I be wrong and that she might be the best for our country? Sure. But that doesn't give one the right to tell me who to vote for. Maybe I should also add in that these were comments that readers of the newspaper can write in. They are the ones who say that us women need to stick together. I believe that one can still be a feminist and still vote for a man, but that is just me. I really did not intent to rant much in this but that's kinda how this ended up to be. My point is, DON'T TELL ME WHO TO VOTE FOR!!!!!! I will vote for whom I see fit to receive the title of "President of the United States."
Women and who they should vote for

there's an article somewhere on http://www.violentacres.com (it's a blog, not an unbiased well of information) about this.
The writer takes the stance that voting for Hillary would be anti-feministic. She goes on to say that, were Hillary to be elected president, she is bound to (as all presidents do) make a mistake at some point of time. This will lead to people saying, "That's what happens when you elect a female president." No other female, no matter how qualified, will be elected for a few more generations because of this.
I went and found the entry while I was typing this. Here it is, if you'd like to read it. :-) http://www.violentacres.com/archives/314/a-vote-for-hilary-is-a-vote-aga...

Word.
Personally I think Hillary would be terrible for the feminist/humanist cause. On the other hand, I believe that if Obama was elected president he would likely be a major influence in bringing women to the presidency in the future.

I completely agree that people should not tell you who to vote for. I read an editorial in the Boston Globe that talked about how people should vote for Hillary because she is a woman. It did make one good point though: If you are a woman and you don't vote for Hillary, you are disloyal but if you do vote for her, you are following the crowd. I think that is a really good point, but it won't change who I am voting for though.

I clicked on this ready to yell, "Don't tell me for whom I should and should not vote!" Then I saw the content of the post!
Er...
I agree! 100%! It is one thing to put a candidates views out there, and to say "these are good reasons to vote for this person, based on the merits of their platform, character, voting record, etc." It is another thing to say "you are _________, so you should vote for this person." I mean, voting is about their stance as compared to my values, not about what category I appear to fit.

I honestly did not realize that there were so many women out there who felt the same as me. The people who I were hearing this from was indeed some women. So I thought that most would be on her side. I am glad to know that there are others that don't like being told what to do. I tried telling my boyfriend about why I wasn't going to vote for her and his reply was, "I think you should vote for her because she is a woman." I almost slapped him in the face until he added, "But vote for who you want to."
