As a part time kindergarden instructional associate at a local elementary school, I am often shocked by what comes out of little children's mouths. Youngster's merely five years old are reciting names and sentances that I would expect to come out of the mouths of pre-civil war tobacco farmers. There is no deferance to race or gender, I've heard this from children with any color of skin. This brings up a question that rings so loud, it can't be drowned out, "HOW IS THIS CHANGING OUR FUTURE?"
These children don't suddenly wake up one morning with this hate and racism built up inside them, it's taught. They're hearing it in the homes from their parents, they're hearing it on the basketball court from their older brothers and sisters, they're hearing it from friends, neighbors, strangers talking on the street. The world is attempting to change people's views on race, but we're failing the true future, we're failing the kids.
In order to change the view of the world, it must begin with YOU, because who else is there? Little ears listen, little minds retain and imitate. It's said that most of a child's young life is developed by imitation, so imitate something worthy of respect.
