Radio Head, a song with out time signature.

I have been listening to Radio Head a lot recently, they and Jack Johnson are the only modern music I listen to any more.  Recently I was talking to my friend about Radio Head and he told me some very interesting things about a couple of their songs.  First of all Pyramid Song, which is one of my favorite songs, has no time signature.  This means that they purposely played the song with out any beat I guess to just show that they could do it and make it sound good.  Now you really have to be a good musician to pull that off.

Also in another one of their songs the singer wrote the song and then taught himself how to sing it backwards.  After he was able to sing it backwards he recorded it and flipped the singing back around so it was forwards again digitally.  The amazing thing is you can still make out the words.  Although it seems like a lot of work for nothing I still think it is pretty amazing.

Radiohead is an amazing band. If you're interested in learning more about them, check out this site: www.ateaseweb.com
It's one of the largest fan sites out there, and guys in the band actually check it more than their actual website.

Pyramid Song is in 8/4, but the piano and drums do very strange things with triplets across bars; and it is certain there is a time signature, because the piano and drums play in sync with the vocal line, and there is a palpable rhythm. try counting slow beats to eight when the drums enter. The effect is also more noticeable by the end of the song. A song whose time I can't figure out is the breakdown of King Crimson's Neal and Jack and Me. try them.
