I just now finished an essay about the if the military should be able to come onto school campuses and recruite students during school hours. It was based on a debate against pro-military and anti-military.
These are some of the facts that support pro-military:
*They dont recruit at only poor/colored schools they recruit at every school in america
*only 3 out of 10 actually join the military
*it is a choice you are not forced to join.
*They train & structure you
*Teach skills through boot camp.
*Benifits for everyone.
*Learn about leadership skills.
*Many liberals serve in the army.
*Voluntary armed forces.
*opportunity for students who dont go to college.
Quotes from the pro-military side:
"The choice is up to you" -student in JROTC
"It is the military, it is not boy scouts. To tear you down- to raise your leadership skills- it is important." -Colonel
"If you really look at the demographics.... its more causcasian folks in the military than there are people of color"-JROTC Instructor
"Freedom is not free" -JROTC Instructor
"Would you rather have the lose there or do you want it here? -JROTC student
"Well unlike the guy to my left, I actually read my contract and i know what im getting into. I know that there is a possiblity that i can go to war and im ready to go and defend my country and not back out.
Anti- Military
*A lot of people get hurt
*People get killed
*Suicide
*Families distroyed
*Put out so many benefits because there are so many loses
*come back disturbed after war
*people put it out on their families.
*bootcamp has 4x the highest suicide rate
*colored people are being targeted.
Quotes from Anti-Military
"People dont go to war and come back clean" Vet. from Iraq war
"War is war is war. The cleanest war you ever heard of there were millions of casualties.
Im just curious... which side are you guys on??

War is hard, but like you said, joining the military can have great benefits to those who have no other way to go to college. People also grow a lot in terms of character and discipline during their time in service.
i agree i wrote that it was okay
only 3 out of 10 join the miliary... three out of ten what? O.o
only 3 out of every 10 kids they talk to about the military actually join
Wtf?? ONLY?? 30% is a very high rate...
not really if you think about it i dont think that its all that high they dont get to talk to that many people a day and when they do only half of the people actually listen
Say a recruiter works eight hours a day. Say he spends fifteen minutes talking to two recruits on average at a time. That's eight per hour, sixty-four a day. Thirty percent of sixty-four is nineteen. Nineteen new recruits out of sixty-four is pretty damn good. If a recruiter works really hard he could probably reach 300 people a day - that's 100 new recruits. Wow.
your right about that but then you have to think maybe only half of them will actually finish training and sign the contracts
I have no qualms about them being on school campuses. Actually I don't like the Army being on school campuses because they use a lot of false tactics to get kids to join like claim they get to drive a black humvee with an Army sign on the side. It's all propaganda.
Now the other branches of the military use cool videos but you know what you're getting into, plus the other branches have recruits with high intelligance. Something the Army can't claim.
yea that part is understandable that was the arguement that the army lies but i feel that its not only the army that lies so we shouldnt just stop the army it its about lies and stuff because schools jobs advertiesments they all do it
Yes, but they usually don't spill as much bullshit as the army does. Rarely do job advertisments lie when looking for a job.
So are you saying because some people like on job advertisments, that they and the army should get away with it?
And to what Kioto said. Even if half go through, that is still 50 soldiers everyday, that's a huge amount couple with thousands of recruiters who are getting at least 50 soldiers a week, if not a day.
no i dont think anyone should get away with it but if we the people who are here sitting around not fighting we shouldnt be arguing about who is fighting either way they are fighting for us all therefore we should be supporting them. I understand that it is a large amount of people but you cant do big things with a little amount of people
I never said I didn't support the troops. I don't support the propaganda that the US Army spills out to recruit members to a life of fun when in actuallity, they're going to Iraq.
yea i understand that part but everyone has to actually read and sign the contract before they get in so they should know what they are gettin into and if they dont read it and just sign it theres not much we can do about it but i do understand where your coming from
The recruiting of high school student is a vital function to meeting the military quota. However, because the military does use underhanded tactics to get the goal accomplish, it is a dishonorable act when they themselves preach honor.
"They dont recruit at only poor/colored schools they recruit at every school in america"
Many of new recruit are low income student and they are the easiest target because of the need for cash. Not the same result when it comes to higher income student.
"only 3 out of 10 actually join the military"
The 3 of 10 are mainly low income student. This tells that military do target low income student.
"it is a choice you are not forced to join"
A person choice is base on option. The military manipulate option or limit student option to make sure that military is the best option. Basically, it force option.
"They train & structure you" & "Teach skills through boot camp"
98% of military training is not feasible for civilian practice.
"Benifits for everyone"
Benefit are just bait to lure student who have a better chance in college than in the military
"Learn about leadership skills"
Leadership skill NOT DO require the military and can be attain without the military
"Many liberals serve in the army"
Many is just another word to express 3 out of 10. Just like many people are already recruited so you should join too.
"opportunity for students who don't go to college"
Military is what delay or cause student to not go to college.
Military recruitment in high school limit the options of possible future leader and even eliminate them in a way. It reduce or delay people of college experience and knowledge more than it give. Military recruitment in high school should be ban.
