History is told through the language, eyes, and point of view of the conquerer. Anyone who has sat through a history class can tell you this. We don't hear about the colonialization of the Western United States from Native Americans. Slavers don't tell us about how the Civil War went. As I have been examining my own spiritual beliefs (or at times, lack thereof) over the past few years I have wondered something.
I have always found it suspicious that Jesus (& God & angels, for that matter) is always a white male. His pale blue or brown eyes are always turned sorrowfully skyward. Yet how do we know what He looked like or for that matter He was a He. I mean, one has to be skeptical that artist renditions of the Last Supper always have everyone sitting on only one side of the table. If God was created in our image...people look so different from one another. Who is to say which one race, gender, or ethnicity He is or isn't?
For that matter, humans aren't the only concious beings on this Earth. Isn't it arrogant to assume not only that He is white, male...but even human?
In the end, this played no role in my exploration of what I did/didn't/do/don't believe. It just serves as something that my mind worries at times, a way to exercise the gray matter by questioning why things are, how they got that way, and understanding my own role in how they are/aren't.
