This is my first blog post on this site. I have been writing and ranting and screaming and shouting and organizing my thoughts about Christianity for a very long time.
Let me tell you a little about myself:
Throughout my years of school from kindergarten up I have been called "anti-christ", "weirdo", "psycho", "devil", "witch", and so on.
I grew up in a very sheltered life, and despite the restrictions to personal freedoms my mother threw onto me, I ended up pretty well rounded.
I did attend church until I grew out of Sunday school, which I remember viewing as just time being spent away from a warm, comfy bed.
In the first grade, we were made to say the pledge of allegiance. This is where the red flags went up for my teachers and peers: I refused to say the words "under god". Keep in mind I was only what--six?
Things only got worse from there. I became more and more aware as the years progressed that my school system (a public New York State school system) was predominately Christian, and were frowning upon minority religions. I'm not Jewish myself, but I didn't understand as a child why people scoffed at the parents' protests of wanting some Hanukkah celebratory decorations.
And then I joined the Brownies, aka: Pre-Girl Scouts. I didn't mind the "togetherness" and Feminist themes so much, but I wondered why people treated me a little different than the other kids until we all stood in a circle, held hands, and were forced to pray to the Christian god.
Appalled, the nine-year old or so that I was, ran out of the elementary school's cafeteria and never attended a meeting afterwards.
This may be some irrational fear of something I do not quite understand yet, I'm only 20. I'm not sure, but I always get a white hot ball of pain/anger whenever certain Christian phrases or words or names appear where they shouldn't be.
My mother experienced an aneurysm last year, and thankfully she lived and is doing great now. Her doctor was so great it makes me tear up just thinking of the brilliant job he did on her. But who does she thank mostly? Jesus!
Mom>> You don't think he had anything to do with it?
Jesus has become the center of war, destruction, death, murder, and just downright closed-minded discrimination across the entire world. Some days I think about all of the sadness and misery one silly mythical figure has created in this world thousands of years after he was made up and put in a book, and it gives me a migraine.
Think to yourself: If Christianity had never spawned from the Hebrews written stories while they were enslaved in Babylon... what would have become of the world?
Really think about it. One thing that springs to mind immediately is the search for the Holy Grail and the Crusades. They never would have existed. The bubonic plague wouldn't have spread as easily. There wouldn't be feuding over church vs. state.
People might actually like each other.
(Note: transition sentence above!)
Discrimination for non-christians has risen dramatically since 9-11, which is ridiculous. Any educated person knows that, despite a few culture-influenced differences, the Muslim religion, Christianity, and Judaism are roughly the same. We can all agree they were spawned from the original texts.
Knowing this, how could a Christian discriminate against a Muslim person for something people he didn't even know did to a building?
(Note: I am aware there are other reasons to discriminate to other people of any type, but I'm speaking solely on a religious level)
I'm tired. Next Rant/Entry: Heresy:The Real Reason Behind Holidays

Are you arguing that your life and the World in general would have turned out better if there were no Christians or Christianity? From your title, I was expecting to see you touch on how hypocrisy relates to your argument. Could you explain what you meant by your title?

You'll never find me defending religion, but...
I really liked the first part of your blog. But then you didn't really talk about hypocrisy at all and just ranted how Christianity is the source of all evil, or at least most of it. It wasn't consistent...
