Im currently in the midst of a three-week trip in Korea but it was two nights ago that I had a notion of revelation. In many ways it wasn't a new idea or thought. It was more of a wonderful clarity, as if the particularly sad mood had warranted this sense of harmony. Looking up at the night sky I readily anticipated enjoying the 'holes to heaven,' but when I lay back and gazed toward the sky my vision was disturbed by the various lights and lamps that littered the earth. It seemed that all the lights down here so greatly dimmed the lights up there that it acted almost as a force that kept the heavenly lights from showering us in its refreshing dress. It was at this moment that I had finally understood something that I knew.
I believe that everything we do and think should always carry the element of appropriation. A kind of flow or 'be like water' idea. I also believe that forcing and acting can be two very different things. Forcing is a disturbing thing that is fueled by our personal knowledge and ego. Acting, however, is more of a following. To follow everything that goes on with your eyes, ears and your heart, and when opportunity arises, it is to do what is most helpful and beneficial for everyone and everything. Opportunity, therefore, is not a chance to gain or get anything; it is a chance to give and contribute anything you can. Give yourself by listening and acting to fulfill the needs of other people and the world; you will undoubtedly recieve what cannot be owned; peace. The problem I had with this idea though was that I had too much anticipation for its final "reward".
So, returning to the stars, I was given a blessing. I realized much more clearly that the light from the stars was the gentle voice of all people and things, and it was being harshly drowned out by the lightbulbs, which was our own knowledge and sense of self. It became apparent that to be able to truly be a good citizen of this world community one should strive to unveil themselves from their knowledge of the world and what it is. To be able to act in everybody and everything's benefit. One should always be listening to the gentle voices all around us and 'work with the mind of the people,' not solely our own. I wish to no longer fill in the blanks where silence lays with what I think the world needs, but call upon the voices to tell me themselves, and act accordingly.
Everything we have can be taken away at anytime,
but not a single thing can be given without our own hands.
