Have you ever wondered if that paper you have been slaving away at for hours upon hours is really going to help you get anywhere you want to go in life? Ever been sitting there in math class thinking "When am I ever going to use this?!" If I'm sitting in history trying to stay awake because I was up all night doing homework, and I'm a slave to caffeinated drinks and have little time to actually "live"...I guess I start thinking whether it's all really worth it.
I guess if you get cancer and die at an early age from all the Diet Cokes (or Pepsi's--you crazy Pepsi lovers!
) that you drank to keep yourself functionable during high school while trying to maintain grades and get into a good college with financial assistance, then you'd really have to weigh out the "costs vs. benefits"....I think it's obvious in this hypothetical case.
So balance is key! But first you have to claim back your life and break free from the chains of this crazy education system that has been implemented in the U.S. of A!! When will the American people start realizing there's more to life than work, work, work, sleep, eat, work? If I could change one thing about our society right now it would be the insane work ethic we have. That would for sure translate into happier people (the kind who don't flip you off in traffic and give you the stink eye when you are crossing the street because they are so damn exhausted from work and their brains are just about to implode...explode...you pick). Who wants to just go out and have some good ole-fashioned fun?! If they don't allow it here, we can take a jet plane to Costa Rica and live the Pura Vida life of the ticos!!

I like this post and I totally agree with what you're saying. I'm adding you as a friend to keep up on your future blogs.
As Conor Oberst put it, "I rather be working for a paycheck then waiting to win the lottery."
We all like working for something, it gives us something to do. Something to live for. Sometimes we need to take a step back and realize there's much more then a 9 to 5.

I will check out your blog too! I LOVE the Oberst quote--so true!
We do need to feel we are doing something productive, something that directly affects the world. School is important, but oftentimes I wish I were in the heart of the world's problems, where help is needed immediately, so that I could do something that feels a little more meaningful than "An Analysis of The Symbols within Retail Stores." YUM!
Homework and grades don't make that big of a difference if you're good with people. I've been at both ends of the spectrum, and I like it much better at the "just enough to pass" end.
