3 Jack Voodoo and some new strings

I know, it's not that big a deal, but I finally got new strings (and a new strap) for my bass before our gig this weekend. This is about the closest we'll be playing to Peoria for a bit and we'll be in Washburn. Some of you who haven't wanted to drive an hour plus just to see my band 3 Jack Voodoo might want to consider coming to Washburn (Webb's Roadhouse) to hear us play.

So the new strings. Guitar players are supposed to change their strings about once a month, otherwise they get worn out and lose their crisp sound and can break easier. Bass players are supposed to change about every 3 months. It's been about a year since I changed 3 of the four (got a set from a buddy and the low E was missing), and about 4-5 years since the low E has been changed. Man, do new strings make a difference.

I can't wait for this gig. We've had like a month off due to various vacations and honeymoons, we should be in good form this weekend.

Oh, and our newest member (he's been with us like 6 months now, wonder when I'll stop thinking of him as "new") has breathed some new life into the band. For some reason, the other band members (and our sound guy) don't think I know anything about being in a band or getting gigs or anything, even though I used to do it for my old band. Granted it was over 10 years ago, but the other guys have NO experience. Yet they don't listen. And when Danny G came in back in September and started saying the same things, they're listening to him. As if I never said it.

Anyway, he's been bringing in some new songs. And I don't just mean songs we didn't play, I mean songs written after 1980 (a running joke about our guitarist Tim, he doesn't think any music was written after 1980). We just learned Paralyzer by Finger 11 tonight and might even be playing it this weekend. Now that we are learning some new music, and a lot more of it (and some heavy stuff too like some Metallica and Tool) we might be able to get some gigs in Peoria. Finally.

All right, off to bed to dream of playing in Peoria and not having to drive over an hour to get to a gig.
