Hey all you security “Big Brother is Watching” buffs (or not), here’s a new one for ya! Yep, Big Brother is still watching… but now he’s just looking a bit closer.
A new kind of camera was recently developed for security purposes that can see through clothing. It’s called Thru Vision and its creators hope it can be used in areas such as airports, train stations, etc.
These handy little devices can see through clothes of a person up to 80 feet away to detect items such as weapons, drugs, and explosives. They manage to do all that without revealing any “details of anatomy” of the individuals the camera is searching. Or at least we hope not.
In today’s world where we’re being so closely watched already, is this going just a bit too far? Or is there no price too high for safety? The jury’s still out on that one. A number of polls I read had a nearly 50/50 opinion on whether or not Thru Vision is an invasion of privacy.
Some people figure, “Heck, I’m already being watched for the better part of every day. I may as well give them a closer look.” On the other hand, how much of our personal lives and dignity should we surrender in the name of security?
I’m sure if this technology succeeds in stopping a crime of terrorism citizens will be quick to praise it. Until then, we’re left wondering if the intrusion worth the benefit.

I don't really care how much I'm being watched. I've got nothing to hide. I don't care if some joe shmo somewhere hears my personal conversations with my hubby. Hopefully he's professional and maybe he would gain some insight by listening to all sorts of peoples' conversations. I'd kinda want that job....

Yeah, that would be an interesting job, huh.
