High Fidelity

I've been inspired. I planned on not completing a blog tonight, or even attempting one, but circumstances being what they are, I'm compelled to pen what's going on.

High Fidelity has just been bumped to my favorite movie right now. Hindsight, it seems, is an extraordinary thing. This film is so close to my life, it's astounding. I've watched, rewound (yes, VHS), watched deleted scenes, commentary, read the book, and I can't seem to relate to the main character enough. This character goes through life ignorant and apathetic, and ends up changing at the end (or so it seems), after reviewing his Top 5 breakups. Maybe it will help me?

5) Sarah K.- Not extreme. No real emotional ties, never really invested too much into the relationship. She's only here because I couldn't really think of any other past relationships that really went on as long as this one did. Eventually, went crazy, nearly stalked me, told people we were together years after she had broken up with me. No longer associate with this psychopath, but she's dating a good friend of mine. Decisions, decisions.

4)Amanda S.- Financially, I invested the most into this Titanic of a relationship. I was in junior high, figured I'd be a real Casanova, so I spent 200 dollars on Valentine's Day (Diamonds, teddy bear, flowers, chocolate). You might be wondering how a junior high kid got 200 bucks? Sold a bunch of things. Still miss those things. Amanda later dumped me for a friend, then moved to Florida. Saw once during the summer of 9th grade.

3)Nicci M.- She was nice. Later Junior high, I dumped a girl 10 minutes after asking her out for this bombshell. Little awkward, she was 4 foot 11 to my 6 foot 2 (dancing was a laughingstock). She was nice, but moved away. Lives in Ypsilanti (Michigan), still keep in semi-regular contact. God, I wish she was taller.

2) Jessie V.- Gorgeous. The most beautiful person I know, we dated for about 2 months when she had a falling out with a best friend, then decided to end it with me because of it. Because of this ending, I've spent a lot of time wondering where things went wrong, wondering how I could get back with her, and came to the conclusion to sever all ties completely. She's moving away next year, as am I. Thousands of miles should do the trick. I'm not sure if I'll ever meet another girl like her again.

1) Abby T.- Epitome of heartbreak. Literally, everything was invested in this. It's impossible to write of the sheer emptiness, the vacancy, or the desperation one feels when a heart simply bursts. Food loses taste, sleep loses meaning, colors lose vibrancy, it's an awful thing. Leaves me because she "needed time to improve her relationship with God". 1 week later, find her destroying all her cd's and makeup, throwing them into the lake, because she (and I quote) "had a dream where Jesus told her to destroy her loved belongings". Obviously, I dodged a bullet there. Currently, happily dating an atheist for 2 years, attempted suicide, and a noted drug user.

*Awkwardly enough, after Abby and I broke up, I decided it would be the right thing to do to hold true to the promises i made to her while we were together. I took her to prom, it was the most god awful thing ever, and it was incredibly awkward, seeing as she had demolished all emotion a mere 11 days beforehand. Ugh. It's a weird thing to not feel a single emotion, I don't recommend it.

"We're a generation of men raised by women. I'm wondering if another woman is really the answer to what we need."- Fight Club.

John Cusack is highly underrated. High Fidelity is outstanding, I definitely recommend it. Identity is another great one. Great psychological premise: a serial killer with paranoid schizophrenia finds his 13 alter personalities fighting for dominance. The entire movie takes place in an imaginary hotel, with 11characters (a limousine driver played by John Cusack, a prostitute who's seen the err of her ways, a family of 3, etc) engaging in a survival game as one of them continually eliminates the competitors. Great twist.
