Wonderful Reasons to Put Yout DEAD Cow Down...go veggie

There are many reasons to go vegetarian. Many more reasons than one might think. Becoming Vegetarian helps out in so many different ways; people, land, air and your health. Take People for instance, if the entire United States was to reduce their meat consumption by just 10 percent then that would save 12,000,000 tons of grain, which could feed a population the size of Great Britain. In regards to land, think about the fact that 20 vegetarians can live off the land that is taken up by just one meet eater. Additionally, it they continue to wipe out American forests (clearing it for the use of farming cattle) then at the present rate 50 years from know there won't be any forests left. Wow, that's a scary thought to me. Does that matter at all to you? I don't know if you believe in Global Warming; although there is scientific proof that it is real!!!! Anyways, animal farming will contribute to Global Warming. The destruction of forests is causing the world to lack the ability to replenish its oxygen supply. Also, when it comes to air being contaminated; it is the fertilizer used to grow crops to feed the animals that is doing so. Growing crops using such fertilizers omits nitrous oxide, which accounts for 6% of greenhouse gases. GLOBAL WARMING! Now we are coming to a topic that maybe you will care even more about. You and your health. Vegetarians don't get as sick as often and they live longer. Why? Because they are healthier! Meat is full of traces of antibiotics, hormones and toxins. Don't believe me? The world health organization recommends a diet that consists of low amounts of sugar, salt and saturated fat and instead is high in fiber. All of which you get by being a Vegetarian. Now, I am not trying to bombard you with facts. Rather just help you learn a little more. Hopefully, you know where your food came from and how much was sacrificed to get it onto your plate. Don't be ignorant.

I'm not ignorant; I just really like meat--cheeseburgers and salami sandwiches, especially. And no amount of facts can guilt me out of that. ;-)

Regardless, this is a pretty informational blog, though you really should cite where you got your information from. :-)

It good to put all of this information together in one spot...now if we could just make people read it...

I myself could never abandon my love of eating meat...I just love food too much.

I agree that you should cite your information, even on blogs that kind of thing can get ugly. Also, and this is mean of me to say this, but try and split your writing into paragraphs...makes it much easier to read and makes people more likely to get all the way through it. People tend to skim over long paragraphs instead of actually reading them(myself included).

It's not mean. It's constructive criticism and helpful. Don't ever be afraid to use it! :-)

Vegetarianism is simply not for everyone, plain and simple.

For example - take away my love for meat - and I could not survive on a vegetarian diet - and even less well on a vegan diet. Anemics do not make for good vegetarians. There are simply not enough plant-life that serve as good enough sources of iron to keep me healthy.

Also - the vegetarian (especially a vegan) diet is extremely unhealthy for children. Of course, as with everything else, there may be exceptions.

The fact remains - what works for one will not work for another - period.

The key is balance. I love meat, but it's not as though I pick up a dead cow, top it off with dead pig and curdled cow-juice, and stuff the whole thing into a chicken with a little dead duck on the side. No - I eat a healthy mix, in moderation, of all food types (except not a lot of pork because pork contains a chemical that makes it hard for a body to absorb iron).

haha. That's great. :-)

I take Iron and B6 supplements to help keep away fatigue, bruises, and moodiness, because my varied, meat-inclusive diet just isn't enough sometimes.

I did not know that about pork--but I don't really like most pork products anyway.

So wouldn't we be tearing down the forest for farmlands instead of cattle farms? lol. If we switch to doing something else then that will be a problem. More pesticide usage, more toxins in your food. Not like there are no pesticides now but still.

My brother was vegetarian for a long time, though he always used the christian argument to justify it...which i have a problem with.

He claims that by not eating the animals(which are God's creation) we are becoming more like God. Well first off...Jesus ate meat, and isn't it every christian's goal to be like Christ? Second, adam and eve were vegetarian in the Garden...and when they left it, God gave them several curses(i.e. no more free fruit/veggies, painful childbirth, etc.) but also gave them one gift. This gift was the right to eat the animals that God put on the earth. Now how is it christian to REFUSE a gift from God...

*sidebar: my brother is no longer vegetarian...seems having kids changed that pretty quickly*

The only major flaw with all of this is that you are only looking at processed meat. Also, Vegetarians aren't the longest living group of eaters. People who eat the Meditteranean diet, pacific diet and the diets of asian cultures, live just as long as vegetarians. It all depends on if your food is processed or not.

If the cow is already dead... we might as well eat it...
otherwise it would just be a dead cow for no reason, and that is just silly.
EAT MEAT EAT MEAT.

The cows wouldn't be dead if people stopped supporting the meat industry.

Have you been to a slaughterhouse? If you went to one, I doubt you'd want to put another bite of steak in your mouth.
