Exhaustion leads to Sleepiness in Class

What causes tiredness. I wake up every day in the morning wondering where all my strength disappeared to. I wake up physically and mentally exhausted. My bones ache all over and my head buzzes with the realization that I have to be at school within the next hour or so. Doing homework at 3 in the morning doesn't prove to be the most entertaining thing to do. Also, coming home after a track meet or rehearsal of some sort makes it difficult to function without thinking about the body's physical need of rest. Then... the sun comes up school starts and concentration is the hardest thing to achieve in class. While others claim to be tired as well, their attention span is unwavering and they are still able to focus without effort. Mean while... I sit, my mind is flying through troubles and my eyes refuse to stay open. I keep moving my fingers or something, in hopes that maybe the random movement will keep me awake. This fails as I begin nodding off during the lecture. Then I tell myself, "they're probably more tired than you! Wake UP!" and I'm force to awake by the voice of my conscience.
But... How is it done? How are people able to stay awake from physical and mental exhaustion?
