Myspace Vs Mylife

Ask 1 in 3 teens today, an they will tell you that they have a myspace. I have witnessed girls exchanging myspace addresses with boys, instead of phone numbers. So I am thinking, is myspace really that serious of a thing. There have been attempted murders due to myspace. There have been quite a few incidents due to myspace. Yet, for some reason, everybody seems to want to get one. I do ot envy those people, and I never will.

In my opinion, myspae would be the perfect way to waste my time. What happened to the old fashioned telephone call, or text message? Myspace is the new fad, and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. All of my friends are like, "Georgie, you should get a myspace!' Well, Georgie does not want a myspace. I have heard that myspace is the best way for meeting new people. From there arises the problem, your meeting perfect stangers, and like most I.E. encounters, the two people usually want to meet after some time. That can be dangerous. Many people are being kidnapped these days. Most importantly, myspace is a free internet site, not a physical company, so there are no background checks on it's users. Even if someone sends you their picture over the web, you can never be truly sure.

I am not blasting mspace, well maybe I am. Although there are some bad things about myspace, the one good is that you get to keep in touch with people you lost contact with. Even then, you still have to play it safe, because you can never be truly sure about anybody. I would rater not have my name and info, or even reference of my name on the world wide web until I truly want it there. So, becareful what you put out there, because it may come back to bite you.

was because my best friend moved to LA for college after we graudated from high school and we do not have money for long distance chats on our cell phones so we resort to commenting and chatting thru facebook/myspace and msn (i only get to see her twice a year now)
but myspace really is becoming a place for people to waste time
----basically, it's not being used as a meaningful tool that it could have been if people used it properly and it has become a place for a lot of bad/ugly things to happen but not everything on myspace is negative.

I agree with you to a certain extent. You shoud be careful about what you post and who you give your personal information on myspace. But myspace is not some terrible internet site. Many of my friends have one and we keep in contact on there as wel as the phone.

I feel that myspace is a great tool!! You are very right about being careful what you put on there about yourself but that's what's great about the site you can do as little or as much as you want. All my friends are now scattered everywhere but around me. We do talk on the phone all the time but it's also nice to be able to see pictures quickly of say our wild weekends (which you can only allow friends to see if you'd like) or just say Hi and not have to worry about not calling because you don't have time.
As far as incidents occuring based on things people post that's BS because the site doesn't make you do anything you decide to do it for yourself. That is clearly a lack of self control and just because they are blaming it on that site if it wasn't around do you really think they wouldn't still be happening? It would just get blamed on something else. I guess I am one of those that have gotten back in contact with several people I had been close to at one time.
