Mel Gibson and the LAPD

With allegations of narcotics dealing, brutal beatings and cops with gang ties, it seems that the Los Angeles Police Department cannot catch a break.  It's so bad that now that even traffic cops aren't free from corruption.

Los Angeles Police pulled over actor and director Mel Gibson for reckless driving.  He came up 1.2 on the breathalyzer test.  The final police report said that he was let go without incident.  However, reporters at TMZ.com caught wind of a potential cover-up.

According to a copy of the alleged original police report, it seems that Mel made several anti-semitic and sexist remarks.  His particular comments don't upset me so much as what else was said to have happened.

According to the "original" report, Gibson had to be detained forcibly after fleeing arrest.  However, the final police report stated that he was arrested without incident.

What he said doesn't really matter; people say weird shit when they're drunk.  However, something should be said about the LAPD who just can't be honest cops.  The LAPD just can't catch a break.

FYI..Mel Gibson was not arrested by the Los Angeles Police Dept. (LAPD). He was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. which is an entirely different police agency. The LAPD does not patrol the city of Malibu where Gibson was arrested.

FYI also....what someone says when they are arrested, especially anti-semetic remarks have no bearing on the legal issue at hand, DUI.  Mel Gibson could say whatever he wanted and it could be left out of the final arrest report..its up to the deputy.

This is not a cover-up, its called discretion.

TMZ went dumpster diving and got a copy of the first draft....so what.

The problem is a bunch of morons having an uneducated opinion and even having the wrong police agency in this case.

Some advice, stay in school and know what you are talking about before you form an opinion.

Again, the issue to me has nothing to do with the remarks he made. People are entitled to their own, drunken opinions. The issue I have with the incident is that the final report said that he was arrested "without incident," yet the initial report stated that he attempted to flee arrest.

Isn't it the officer's discretion to decide what to charge him with? Perhaps the officer felt that the fleeing part wasn't as important. How does it make the officer "corrupt" if he choses not to charge him with that?
