Years ago, a promise was made, it was made in honor that the people will be set free to live in peace. Months later that promise was betrayed and left the people in the mountains to die for a war they did not start. Those people, were called Hmong.
"A former Laotian military general who helped the CIA wage covert war in Southeast Asia more than 30 years ago and a former officer in the California National Guard were charged Monday in federal court with plotting a violent overthrow of Laos' communist government.
Gen. Vang Pao, a prominent Hmong leader who lives in Orange County, was charged with conspiracy to topple Laos leaders in a case that reads like it was taken from the pages of a spy novel."
What do you call a man for being courageous enough to bring some of his people to the U.S? What then is he for wanting to plot against the government that killed millions of his people? I would not call him a terrorist or a general, he is a human. What human would be not go back and fight for his people? What human does not suffer from history? Every culture, every country and in every indivdual has suffered from something selfish and political. I do not blame someone for trying to protect but to use mass weapon of distruction as a way to solve the problem and pain, there is no doubt for him to go to jail.
How many years must the suffering and struggle continue for something such as a promise? How many more lives should be taken for living in the highlands of Laos? Most of all what are they doing about it.
