Help: Starting a High School Club

Tagged:  •

Hi everyone.

After a few of my more political posts, someone suggested that I should start a Youth in Government club at my school so maybe teens can get a little more recognition among elected officials.

However, I have no idea how to start a club or get it aproved by the school, and I know for a fact that there is no Youth in Government club on my high school campus, so I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about starting or running a club because I dont want to go into this looking like a complete fool.

I know this is my last year in high school, but maybe if I start something like this now, underclassmen may follow and try to complete what I've started.

Any kinds of tips, advice, hints or ideas are welcome!

It depends from school to school. At my school at the beginning of the year, we had all the clubs get together, sign a charter, create our own constitutions, and sign up people at our annual Club Day. However last year, the club I'm in now just started up and all we had to do was fill out a charter and make a constitution. We also had to find a faculty member who could be the mentor of the group and get at least 10 people on board. That way, Leadership recognized us as a legitimate club and we got our own cash box to put our earnings in there.

So I'd talk to your school's leadership department first. I'm sure they'll have the answers.

Good luck!

You have a message waiting for you on goosebusterfan's post about open-mindedness. It would do you well to read it before you post anything else.
