Attention all Future Novelists!

I know a lot of people don't think we listen to them when it comes to suggestions, desires, or ideas. But we really do! And just to show you how much we listen, we members of the Progressive U Faculty are proud to announce the launch of our new sister site, "Progressive U Creative Writing". This new site is set up to cater to those of you who just want to write without having to stick to the news or political scandals - as much fun as those are.

But, of course, this sister site must also promote the Progressive U mission. What does that mean, exactly? Stories and poems should reflect at least some degree of our "Progressive Values" (as defined on this site). Does this mean you have to write a poem about Hillary Clinton in order to post? No, of course not. But I'll bet once you really get to thinking about it, you'll be able to knock off several stories and poems that contain political intrigue, scandal, and foreign policies galore!

Here are some things to remember about this new Creative Writing site:

  • The site is still new; as such, you may see some errors pop up occasionally. Don't worry about them too much - we've been checking to make sure that everything is still working properly. So far, the only things that don't seem to be working are the user photos - but we're working on that.
  • By signing up with ProgressiveU.org, you are automatically made a member of the Creative Writing site. This means that you don't need to register for a new account at that site, simply click the link whenever you want! Or, if you find you are asked to log in, just use the same Progressive U username and password that you set up for this site. Of course, this doesn't mean that you are required to submit writings to that site if you don't want to. It's just there for you if you wish to use it.
  • The Creative Writing site is a separate outlet from the main Progressive U web site. As such, nothing you post to the new Creative Writing site will count towards the Blogging For Progress Scholarship. However, there is a chance in the future that we may be holding some Bonus Point Opportunities that will entail making posts to that site - so don't let that discourage you.
  • Because the two sites share the same user-information, any changes you make to your account on one will appear on the other site as well. The exception to this right now are the user pictures (which aren't quite working yet) and Buddylists. Your buddy list will not transfer over.

  • Please remember that just as with Progressive U's main web site, content submitted to the Creative Writing site is viewable by the public. Progressive U is indexed by Google and other search engines to help you gain exposure. To this end, please do not post anything you do not wish to be read publicly. Or, take the necessary precautions to copyright/protect your work.
  • And that's it! If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me (or any other member of the Progressive U Faculty) a message, or email Progressive U at info[at]progressiveu.org. You can also leave a comment here. I will be working on developing an entry into the Frequently Asked Questions on this site to help cover the Creative Writing site as well - so be sure to check there in the near future for more information.

Or, just go straight to the new sister site and check it out for yourself!

My question is, if we blog on this new site, does that count towards the scholarhsip if we are working on that?

First of all, you can't blog on the new site. It is strictly a creative writing site, so only stories and poems are accepted.

    Secondly, please read the post:

My mistake for not reading that more carefully. Thank you for clarifying.

    You're welcome! Dance!

And for future reference, when you reply to another comment (rather than the blog) it's best to click the 'reply' link at the bottom of the comment, so your comment is indented beneath it. This helps us figure out who is responding to who in very large conversations.

Who retains ownership of the material posted on the website. I am working on a novel, and -- while I love a good cause -- I don't feel like donating the rough drafts of my book to it.

You do. Though if you don't feel comfortable posting your drafts on the site, you're certainly not obligated to.

I'm comfrotable with people reading and commenting on my drafts, I just wanted to make sure that I would retain ownership of anything that I posted on the creative writing section of the website.

    I like getting criticism.

The more you hear about your work, the better it becomes [so to speak]. After all, it's all relative.

Teenage writing pretty much always sucks, I'm afraid.

doesn't mean they (you) shouldn't keep at it, though. facility is always just beyond, just ahead.
