clooney does it again

Tagged:

recently george clooney was at an event to cast light on the situation at darfur.  all of a sudden people know about darfur and the horrific conditions there.  wait a second!!  where has the media been?  for months we have been force fed pured hollywood melodrama and human beings have been suffering and dying.  the sad thing is that society as a whole has known about darfur and we have done nothing.  we see it talked about or re-enacted on t.v.- thank you e.r.  but we have done nothing...we do nothing.  the problem is that if it doesn't affect us, if we are not starving, if our daughters are not being raped at the age of three, if our home is not a grass hut with a dirt floor, it does not matter to us.  some people criticize mr. clooney, but i applaud him.  i thank him for the humanity he has that he can speak about a problem and not care what his critics think or say, he just has the hope that they will do something- anything to help.  how can a person know about what is happening at darfur and stay silent?  how can we as the human race stand ill while children are suffering?  we rely on our media to inform us on what is important so we are able to do something,  yet all they do is disable us.  we need to wake-up and focus our attention on what is important, life.

It's true that the attitude of Clooney doesn't deserve all these critics. I find it sad that all we do is watch, instead of taking attitude ourselves, too. We are the generation that will have to make a change. Then why don't we do it?
