There has been a law drafted in China, that speaks of the negative effects the internet has on children. It states that the internet has become " hotbeds for online gaming and chatting, and even crimes such as gambling and drug use". It's interesting to see something being done about the indecency of the internet community. I see this happening everyday, what with people putting too much information online, causing things such as the myspace rapes. In ways the internet causes youth to grow up in a need to be accepted. We discussed this in class a few weeks ago, how the internet can be a problem for the youth because they are so innocent they will type in something such as their name, only to have a porn site show up. There are parents that just let their children go online with no supervision, allowing them to go on for hours on end.So this makes it easy to see why the law would be written.
On the other hand, it takes away a great resource for children. The internet is the fastest resource we have. With just a few keystrokes, seconds later you can have all the information you could ever want at the tips of your fingers. To take this away from young adults that could use it for their benefit also seems unfair. I don't see people that are over the age of 12 as children. Once you hit 13 you become a teenager, and should be able to make your own decisions and be able to face the consequences.
I think that this is ridiculous to not allow those over the age of 12 to use internet cafes. I think this provides a hinderence when it comes to learning. It will set them back if they don't have their own internet connection. Yet it will keep them safe from possible adverse effects.
What do you guys think?
China may ban those under 18 from using internet cafes

I think this has something to do with the guy who was using a 24-hour internet cafe to play World of Warcraft. He stayed on so long, he died. I don't know the details but I skimmed over the headline and the first couple of sentences in a newspaper.
