"Do you believe in God?"

So today I didn't have a whole lot going on..except perhaps that I could have been working on a study-guide for microbiology..so I went downtown to sit with this guy who is doing a hunger-strike in front of this building where shareholders meet about LNG (liquid natural gas.)

You see, there are six new proposed pipelines that are proposed to run through hundreds of acres of old growth forest...meaning thousands upon thousands of ancient trees would lose their lives, streams and rivers would be crossed, hills and mountains would be blasted through to make way for these pipelines....all so that energy-hungry cities in California would be satiated. Governor Schwarzenegger refused to let these pipelines be built in California, declaring California a "green" state, but the irony is that these pipelines would be shleeping gas down our coast for California to use....

So naturally, I am appalled that this is even being considered....and overjoyed that someone would hunger-strike against it. So I went to support the hunger striker and was suprised by the person he turned out to be.

He was neither oldish nor grayish nor sharpish nor mossy....and he definately spoke with a voice that was anything but bossy...yet he spoke for the trees...and I have to respect that. (Forgive my reference to The Lorox...I've decided if I end up at a tree-sit, that book is coming along....)

But he also spoke for God, the aliens, the Hopi, his ancestors, his spirit guides....in short, he spoke like many other scattered hippies I've met over the years....he didn't even have a really good explanation for why he was hunger-striking, other then a vision God apparently gave him that told him to do it.

But hey, anyone who hunger-strikes for trees is rad in my book....and if God is telling people to save trees, that's the type of God I want to follow...

But apparently, there are some Earth Firsters! who are concerned about this guy and his hunger strike...is he giving environmentalists a bad name? Are we all gonna look crazy because of this guy? Does it matter if we all look crazy? Don't we all look crazy anyway, even without the help of this guy?

And guess what, when I look inside, especially when I look inside while out in the woods, I do believe in God. And I believe God is a radical environmentalist, and he might even send a crazy red-headed hippy to save the trees...

What do I know? Maybe the aliens are trying to direct us down on earth to save the trees too....(that was part of his whole rambling message...)

Anyway, pray for us here in Oregon would ya...maybe God or the aliens or my spirit guides or someone will hear....and maybe the ecoterror we are experiencing will be ended...

Who knows?

I do believe in God. Without knowing the exact specifics, I bet God had some kind of hand in that hunger striker friend of yours being at that buidling. I bet He had a hand it you guys having a chat too. It doesn't seem like the guy makes anyone look bad though. Are Earth Firsters really that concerned with their image? Doesn't everyone know that tree-huggers are a little wacky? I personally like wacky.

I mean, this guy is more then a little wacky, but that is ok in my book...he's doing a good thing, and that is all I care about...(and I do believe him when he says God wants him there...)

Anyway, as long as this guy sits there, I'll continue to support him...he's raising awareness about the pipelines, and I think that is a great thing.

Some of the Earth Firsters seem concerned about their image...which I think is a shame, since there are bigger "fish to fry" so to speak. Of course tree huggers are wacky....I don't think we need to be shy about that...

You all look crazy even if the man was a well dressed buisness man! Either way we were suppose to care for the earth not destroy it. I would sit down next to him too. Even if I ended up looking like all those people that went 'run-in' with Forest Gump.

Excellent post
