Oooh. The dreaded scholarships. We're all going to worry about them at some point. I mean, hey. That's why alot of us are on this website right now.
Why is paying for college so unattainable [for the majority of us] that we have to write 4 essays and fill out 12 pages of information to win just 1 scholarship and then work 3 jobs and take out a student loan or two? Why has education become something so much easier for the rich to attain! And it's even easier for the poor than it is for the middle class.
The rich have the money to attend college. They often can pay tuition as well as the other fees like room, board, and books. The poor get grants and scholarships thrown at them. Especially if they are minority. But for the many that are middle class? We don't have enough to pay. We don't make little enough to get money thrown at us. I'm not saying that either the rich or the poor don't deserve to get money, but it's so hard to try and raise the money for school.
Maybe I'm just bitching because it's late and I'm writing essays. But maybe college will be more affordable someday? Let's all keep hoping.
Well, have a good night.
And keep working on those essays, kids.
Some of us are bound to win at some point.

It's sort of sad, isn't it? The middle class seems to get shafted on a lot of things, and yet, without the middle class, the whole idea of democracy would fail...
isn't it?
That that's the way democracy runs.
Everything seems a little paradoxical.

Check out this article about how the middle class is being squeezed and eventually will dissapear alltogether. This is not a coincidence! Read and learn why it seems like your money is not covering your basic needs anymore.

Interesting article. Thanks for that.
I especially agree with the part about blurring optimism and naivete. It seems that that is so common in this search for the American Dream.

some scholarships that require essays weed out the people who randomly would apply to anything. it's just like jobs -- you gotta work for the money if you want it badly enough.
I'm a poor minority, and I didn't have scholarships thrown at me. I had to throw myself at them, and hit them hard enough to drop the money at my feet. It wasn't easy- I worked, did the whole three job thing you mentioned, and I'm still in more student loan debt than the average student. I'm happy I did all of it, even the loans. You should be happy to have the opportunity to go to college- many people don't. Student loans are a privelege, not a right.
I have a hard time with you saying it's easier for the middle class to obtain. Have you ever tried applying to a college and explaining to them that the address line is blank because you live in your car? Have you ever left the room during an exam because your stomach is growling due to hunger, or ran from landlords because you chose books over rent? That's not exactly easy, and I don't know of any middle class student that's had to struggle through that.
