I find it amusing that people automatically assume every homosexual person is a Democrat. That just because we have an alternative lifestyle to the mainstream crowd we must be liberal freaks. Yes, a lot of queer people are Democrats, but why do people assume ALL of them are and are completely shocked when they find out they are something such as a Republican or Independent.
Just because I believe in equal rights for me as a queer person does not mean I believe in high taxes to pay for every social program ever. Just because I love a girl does not mean I believe in illegal immigration. I could go on forever with lists of things, but it is just so annoying to deal with the assumptions.
My mom is one of the worst people about it. She is a Democrat (and so is my dad... I don't know how I ended up this way) and seems to think that just because I like girls means I must be one of the most liberal, provocative people ever.
Moral of the blog: Don't make assumptions based on groups.

So it makes sense to support republicans who really think that you are genetically made up wrong or were not raised up right? Maybe you aren't republican and are an independent, which i can understand but i don't see the reasoning behind a gay person an, or lesbian supporting Republicans. I did watch a couple of episodes of BIll Maher that had a gay guy author/political analyst talk about why he is a republican, but tell me more about why you are NOT a democrat? I see you think welfare, after school programs and public school funding among other things are not a good reason to give money but what else makes you not support Democrats? They are not the ones spending trillions on funding a war and getting our soldiers killed.
Above All - Do no harm
I am a registered Republican. I am one of the most conservative people my friends know as some of them have stated. I actually consider myself as more of a moderate though, but slightly to the right.
I don't believe in illegal immigration
I don't believe in abortion
I believe in big corporations
I don't believe in having someone sit in a jail cell for a lifetime while I pay for it
I believe I have the right to own a gun
I don't believe in pulling every single troop out of Iraq on a day I set months from now
Much more
And even though I am not straight, I'm still a Christian who believes in those ideals.
I like the comment made after yours.
i see...i don't know, if someone atttacked me, as republicans do often to gay people, i wouldn't be able to ignore it, but that's me and you're you, i think it must be tough for you to always have people assume you'd be democrat and not republican. Also, you believe that people on death row should be given the chair or whatever to end their life? because there have been cases where an innocent person has gotten electrocuted and because of today's technology there have been people freed from their sentences because they were innocent. its your decision but for me, there are a plethora of reasons for not being republican, top of my list is iraq, the lies, the lives, and the continued deceit by the government but...i care too much about that because i know the figures not only for american soldiers but iraqi children and civilians, orphans and people who will be forever handicapped....ah, its ugly this wolrd but we have to live it and love it to some extent

They only "attack" gay people because everyone wants to hear them addressing the issue all the time. Gay people aren't even guaranteed rights by electing someone who is a Democrat; they don't even all believe in equal rights for homosexuals.
And as for the death row thing I have done a research paper specifically on the topic of people wrongly executed, but I still believe in the system. (It should just be improved a little and technology today makes that possible)
huh? what do you mean people want to hear them attack, i don't want anyone to attack and granted Democrats are sometimes a facsimile but...the chances of them being the source of change is more likely don't you think. I agree that technology has done miracles for society, mostly positive benefits. I stil think you are missing out on the whole list of social issues relevant to society that Democrats are known to fund or maybe you already know but you don't care because it's your money and you want it.
I much more Believe that Democrats are for the Downtrodden then believe that Republicans would help a brother or sister out. i mean the party as a whole and not specific people. also i lvoe Lincoln and if i'm correct, he was a Republican.
Above All - Do no harm
heh. to be perfectly honest when i saw your title in the list of recent posts i was like "wait, who thinks every democrat is gay?" it makes a lot more sense the other way around.
i think the reason most people are surprised at the idea that a gay/esbian person would be conservative is because these days conservative doesn't just mean fiscally (thanks, religious right!), it means socially....including, for many people, the denial of what i believe to be a basic right (marriage) to a sizable chunk of society.
we need to create a third political party. the "we're not crazy politicians, we just want to live our lives" party.

Thank you for posting this article. The assumption that every homosexual has jumped on to the liberal progressive bandwagon is long overdue a refutation. I, too, am a registered Republican. It seems that all those liberal gays can tolerate and forgive any offense but that. They just don't understand why someone would hold highly beliefs in personal freedom and responsibility, limited government, and economic non-intervention. Maybe it's just too difficult to shed the victim mentality. Keep up the good work!
...and I am definitely conservative in the classical sense of that word as it applies to American politics. I am heartily opposed to socialism in all its forms, for individual rights, believe in limited government and tend to read the Constitution with a strict constructionalist's eye.
The funny thing about neo-conservatives is that they really aren't conservative at all. The modern Republican Party for example is pro-spending, pro-foreign involvement, anti-state/pro-federal control, and insists on re-interpreting the Constituion to limit individual freedoms.

I'm a registered liberal, but there are some things that I agree with republicans about--the main one being abortion. For the most part, at this point in my life, I'm anti-abortion. This is subject to change once I get to the point where I'm comfortable in my idea of when life begins (if that ever happens.) But I am also against the death penalty.
Point being: I am bisexual, and a liberal. However, I lean to the right on a few issues and a lot of people do find that puzzling. I realize that not all liberals are for gay marriage, but the ones that I support, are. As of yet, I've only heard of a few republicans that do support it-- and I mostly disagreed with everything else they were for, so for me, it just makes more sense to be liberal.
With that in mind, I think that's where the assumption begins, and I'm not at all bothered when someone is shocked that I'm liberal, bisexual and am still pro-life. It's easy to expect things of people when large groups prove you right time and time again.
Perhaps I'm too forgiving.
