Yay, first post, I just hope I can catch up to the "featured bloggers" on the left.
But first, I'll just say it: I don't really agree with the point system and how this site works.
It seems that the people who post and comment a lot will get the most points, regardless of how good the content is. People will also get points for other people reading their posts, this could be used as a quality rating but it would more likely be a rating of how sensational a post is.
The rating system seems to force people to post many contraversial posts and comments in the hope that they will get many readers and accecpted posts. While this is fine for a normal blog maybe a better way would be to give readers the ability to rate posts for their content but this is tricky also because people with an unpopular viewpoint but excellent posts won't get as high a rating as someone with a more popular viewpoint. Maybe the post could have two ratings one for writing and style and one so you can agree/disagree with the point of the post.
Also, with the current system I'm directly competing with the other posters for "reads" which encourages me to not read other peoples posts so that they get less points. Even with a rating system there is the incentive to go around giving everyone zeros.
And how are people chosen to be a "featured blogger"? It seems like that would tip the scales a tad.
I'm not exactly sure how the scoring would be done but there has to be a better way.

I honestly don't agree with the points system either. And after this contest, whether I win or not-I won't be back. At least not for long.
The points system definately should be revised though.
Part of the reason there is so much dissension among humans is due to disrespect for authority. I do believe it takes more time and effort for someone to comment on a blog than to have someone else whom you do not even know to comment on your blog. I believe this system to be fair. Also who are we to judge? Are we the ones passing out the money?
they want people getting involved with each other and this is one way for them to do it. It may seem unfair or off, but as humans they can only do so much.
Probably just a way for them to make the site more active and keep it active. I'm new too, and just figuring all of this out. It seems kind of weird to me. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

If I read it correctly, the administrators can delete posts that really aren't worth anything, so only people who really deserve it can get to the top. I think activity should be rewarded, so the comment points are fair. I guess I think the points system is fine.
