Say No to Affirmative Action

Tagged:

Let's begin by defining the origins of affirmative action.  The phrase was first coined by president John F Kennedy in a civil rights speech he made.  Affirmative action in theory was a good beginning step for minorities.  It gave them a leg up after centuries of being persecuted and oppressed by white males.  Affirmative action tody, however, is not the same affirmative action of the 60's.  Today it has become a reverse discrimination for white males.  If the applicant to almsot any college is either a woman and/or a minority, he/she stands a better chance of getting into that college than a white male applying for that same spot.

Back then, affirmative action was a helping hand.  Now it is just an insult to minorities.  The baisc principle behind public education is those who want to succeed will.  Therefore, if you are a minority, you should be able to get into college without the help a quota, and you should be proud of that.  As such, applications for everything--businesses, colleges, government positions, etc.-- should exclude race or gender unless it is specifically relevant to the type of job/college that the applicant is applying for.  This not only pulls back from reverse discrimination, it also gives minorities the ability to say"i did this on my own, with no racial help and no fake achievement."

I'm sorry what?!

Affirmative Action, if anything helps white women more than any minority. There are no real qoutas. And is there a problem with helping minorities get into college? This is how afac works... Who would you pick for a swim team, the swimmer who wins the race in 2.8 seconds or the one who loses (assuming there are only 2) but places 2.10 seconds with 10lbs weights attached to his/her feet? Afac helps those who succeed through obstacles.
