If you have read my other post on Immortality, you are aware of what I will be talking about. If you haven't, take a quick look at it. I have a link to the article on that one. What this is about though, is a man and how he claims that he will soon be able to make humans capable of living to be 1,000 years old. The problem I want to bring up this time is who will be able to drink from this fountain of youth.
Think about it, even current medical treatment is much better if you are wealthy. Ex. Michael Johnson and aids. It won't be a elixir that is available for anybody who wants it. No, it will be for the wealthy and the powerful (which means wealthy in this country). It will be Bill Gates, presidents, athletes, and actors. More importantly, it will be for CEOs of large corporations: you know, those faceless people who are starting to rule the world. And do you know what this means? They will rule the world! I don't want to get all sci-fi on you here, but if the wealthy 10% live for a 1,000 years, but the rest don't, they are the lords of the land. Rather, they are the Lords; they will be gods amongst us. You don't think they will begin to see us all as sheep--that is more than they do now?
The constitution was created with a safe-guard called the electoral college. It was to make sure that voting isn't left in the hands of the uneducated masses. Just in case we all vote for someone that the politicians and wealthy knows is bad choice, they still have the electoral college who is not mandated to vote as we did.
If we only live a 10th of what they do, we will all be "uneducated" because we are just babies as far as they are concerned. They have lived through centuries, but we have only lived through decades. They know what is best in the long run--that is, for them.
Perhaps this fear is just mine.

You are right. If we ever found a fountain of youth, it would be reserved for the rich, wealthy, and high class. This will turn the gap between rich and poor into the grand canyon, insurmountable unless you are a genius. This will also make the upper class into a class of gods, reminiscent of Mount Olympus. This scares the hell out of me. The idiots that make up a lot of our upper class don't deserve to be semi immortal in my opinion.
