So here is the situation: I play JV baseball at my school as well as "assistant coach" the C fastpitch team. Our school is only in its second year of existence and they needed a C team coach so one of the basketball coaches volunteered. He had really no clue about fastpitch, and I was the "planager" (player manager) on baseball so I decided to help him out.
First off, it is hard to coach your peers. Second, the coach is sick. So today I had to coach by myself. It was a very interesting experience. I had really no control over them, and when I made them run for the first time this year, they complained. It is hard to coach girls, so for those of you that do, I applaud you.
After awhile the varsity coach (my 8th grade baseball coach) took them to see how they have progressed this season as well as do baserunning drills. I believe this really opened their eyes because of how much they realized that they needed to improve. They worked hard, and finally listened when a coach talked to them.
I just wanted to get this blog out to first time coaches, or someone who has to coach to their peers. For me, I did it because of my love for the game and love to watch when someone fails, and then goes out harder to improve...and if they succeed, it is an amazing thing to watch. I hope you all get the chance to coach sometime, becaues it is amazing to feel like you've done something good for someone else. And I won't lie, I am a hard coach. But I believe you need to be hard for results. Always practice harder so you are better prepared for a game.
But again, this is just my two cents.

Yo! I hear that! It is SO hard to coach peers! I am a team captain for the school's track team and recently pulled my quad. So I'll be out of commission for a while and probably will work with them alot. It's SO hard to avert my thought away from their looks of contempt towards me while I encourage them to go harder, and achieve more intensity! Dude, I know how you feel. We should keep contact and give eachother advice! =D Wanna? I think it'd be cool!
