Recently there was a car accident here. It involved three teenagers who were going home from a school even – called “Relay For Life” where they raise money to help fight cancer. Anyways, it was pretty late… A guy who had a few drinks was leaving a bar he had spent the last two hours in. Around 11pm, they two cars collided. One of the teenagers were flung out of the car, and landed on his head. His girlfriend, was stuck in the car, and pulled her leg out of the car. She held him in her arms before he passed away. The last of the teenager, was sent to E.R. but ended up in a coma. The driver, who was driving drunk, left the accident unscathed.
Isn’t in unfair? How the drunk drivers NEVER get hurts? But the innocent people that he crashes into, die? I haven’t ever thought that drunk driving would affect me because I don’t drink. But drunk driving affects anyone who drives, and it makes it worse. Why can’t the call a taxi? Or ride home with someone? Why risk your life, or someone else’s?
For the boy who died in that crash, I felt so bad for him. He had so much ahead for him, and his girlfriend… is probably feeling horrible. She’s completely changed. She doesn’t talk, and she scarred for life. Seeing her boyfriend die in front of her. It’s so sad.
I also have another incident, that touches close to home.
My friend, who’s grown up with me. Sure he’s at least 10 years or older than I am, but I remember him being there for me growing up. He was on his moped heading home, when a drunk driver crashed into him. He’s paralyzed from the waist down, and had to have surgery, and replaced his legs with metal. But, recently these past few months the metal started eating away at the bone, and his skin. So he had to get surgery (once again), to remove the metal and had to have a transplant. It’s real sad, if it wasn’t for the drunk guy he could have had kids! It’s sad, seeing his mother care for him… Like he deserves to live, and have a chance to live. But because of drunk drivers, who DECiDE that they are capable of driving… they ruin innocent people’s chances.

This post almost made me cry it is very sad to see how stupid drunk people can be. If someone is going to get drunk like you said call a cab or just drink at home. Here is a poem (that I didn't write) It brings tears to my eyes and I don't cry hardly ever:
Author Unknown
Near to the door,
he paused to stand,
as he took his class ring
off her hand.
All who were watching
did not speak,
as a silent tear
rolled down his cheek.
And through his mind,
the memories ran,
of the moments they’d walked together
over the sand.
But now her eyes were so terribly cold,
for he never again would
have her to hold.
They watched in silence,
as he bent near,
and whispered the words,
“I love you” in her ear.
He touched her face
and started to cry,
as he put on his ring,
and wanted to die.
And just then, the wind began to blow,
as they lowered her casket
into the snow.
This is what happens
to man alive,
when friends let friends
drink and drive.
Thanks to Sgt. Richard Brown of the Lanett, Ala. Police
Department for allowing me to use this poem from his website at

Unfortunately for everyone else, drunk drivers are less likely to get hurt in accidents. Why? Because getting drunk makes you looser...you're reaction time gets slower. When an accident occurs, you don't tense up like the sober people in your car, and that simple fact can save your life. Whether you deserve that lucky break or not.
Great post. Makes me sad to hear about what happened to those students and your friend.
There should be tougher consequences for drunk driving. I think this would help deter it and reduce the problem.
