have civil rights gone too far?

Have Civil Rights and racism issues in our society gone too far? Have we as a society coddled, feared, and sympathized too much for minority races? Or have we simply wrongly defined the rules of racism?

Minority groups have many advantages in our society. They can get cheaper schooling because of their minority status. If the school didn't give them special rights, couldn't that be turned back around to the school being racist? Could it not be turned into a lawsuit against the school, arguing that you were turned down because you are black, hispanic, or whatever you are?

There are so many double standards when it comes to the issue of racism, i dont even know where to start. These minorities have, BET, Black History Month, NAACP, the United Negro College Fund, etc. If we were to start up WET (White Entertainment Television), would that not make us racists? If we had a White history month, we'd be racist. If we had any kind of organization for white people only to "advance" or "better" our lives, would that not make us racist?

Minorities are always proclaiming that they are proud to be black, proud of there mexican heritage, etc., etc., etc. If us white people walked around announcing that we are proud to be white, you know how that would be taken.

There are countless numbers of lawsuits every year against individuals and companies, because the defendent in question believed they were treated unfairly because they are black. And I believe a lot of them are valid and necessary. But the majority of them kind of make you wonder if some of these people are just out to make an extra buck by playing the racist card. They have leaders like the Reverend Jackson, who are constantly pounding it into their heads that this was wrong, or that was wrong, so SUE SUE SUE.

I am not a racist person at all. I have several black, hispanic, asian, friends, and they are great people, as i am sure that most minorities are. It just disgusts me that it almost seems like minorities are put on a pedestal and given better rights than other Americans, just because they are a minority. They say not to judge them on the color of their skin, but when it comes to recieving benefits, they expect to recieve them because of the color of their skin.

I don't even know where to begin.....wow!....you are indeed right but lets not take it too far. i do think that their is a double standard for minorities in reference to whites in the aspect of benefits (schooling, holidays, etc.)but lets not forget that when speaking of american history all the heros and those in power were white, 90% if not 95% of those who govern the US are white!, 88%- 90% of telivision and radio programming is white!, the majority of Universities if not HBCU's are (you guessed it) white! so my friend, whites don't need WET, or White History Month because you already do (but without those names on them...american history IS white history...sure their are slaves , but were they not just human shaped cattle?....televised entertainment IS white, please spare me the one black, spanish, asian, or indian person per ten whites in the shows or their streiotypical behavior. ---i end this comment by saying to you that i do feel that minorities are SOMETIMES abusive of this double standard, but IF these standards weren't in place , you would have minorities suffering at the bottom of the barrel in a overwhelmingly white nation. (oh and the BET and Hispanic whatevers are a means to let whites know that other races and cultures do coexist in this country, and would like to be acknowledged for something more that their TV steriotypes!)

The most precious thing you have on this earth is your life, so don't waste it, because once its gone you don't want to regret not speaking your mind!!

I agree that SOMETIME civil right leader do do the extreme but I must disagree with your respected opinion about minority getting cheaper schooling. Minority don't get cheaper schooling just because they are minority, it depend on wealth which many minority don't have and trying to get a hold off. Black history is to celebrate the achievement of equally that Black leader had achieve in the past. Off course the dominant group can have a white month too but it depend on the content of the celebration or whatever the month is about. Black power is usually associated with fighting against slavery but in the case of white power it's consider the contrary. That can be a reason for why white power is consider racist even though there has been many white people against slavery. A lot of minority are proud of their heritage can be also due to the opinion that their ancestor had done something great as a minority. Also, news tend to make non-racist issue into racist issue. People just think that news is news, so it true which I have to say it very dumb of people to think that way considering the news has been disprove countless time. In the end, it mainly depend on the content that anything is use in.
