Confessions of an Overly Obsessed Thespian

The bottom right hand corner of my computer screen is telling me it is is 12:19 AM. Forty minutes ago I returned from a Sound of Music cast party. Four days ago I returned from Chicago, where I auditioned for Boston University's theatre department - I know you're probably thinking "Why were you in Chicago for Boston University?" It was for Unifieds... really, it's just a theatre thing. Four months ago I returned from a Thespian Troupe outing, where we collected canned goods to donate to homeless shelters. Four years ago I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in acting.

Many people seem to think that acting in general is very superficial, very vain, and very easy. I have a few words on this subject. First theatre is not superficial. Was Shakespeare superficial? Were generations and generations of storytellers superficial? No. Acting is simply a more extravagant way of passing down stories, à mon avis. Second while it is the general consensus that most actors and actresses are vain, I have met very few who act that way (no pun intended). Many non-profit organizations have even been started by celebrities and Broadway casts. Third, acting is much harder than it seems. Good actors do not just stand on stage and say a line. You truly have to become your character. Without the proper training, someone with amazing potential can be unemployed for most his life...

..Which brings up another point. Good acting schools cost a lot of money. I don't have that kind of money. FastWeb helps me find that money. FastWeb also helped me find this blog page. So, here I am, an aspiring actress, if you will, attempting to attain an assortment of scholarships, so that I, Shannon, can seek the school suited for me. Minus the (bad) alliteration, I just want to go to a good school and that is merely the reason why I'm posting this blog.

I believe a quote would be a very nice way to end this post. One of my favorite people to quote is Victor Hugo, who once noted, "There is nothing like dream to create the future."
