The eye poping truth about our WORLD!

Everyone knows the world is going through global warming, but whats the big deal we still have over 200 years to fix the problem right? WRONG

Our world has been going through a crisis for so long, but no one ever put it at the front line of our issues. Instead we focus on war, trade, and many other issues. This may seem a little bitter, but SHOULDN'T WE FOCUS ON OUR EARTH FIRST?

Its like thinking about what to watch, before you buy a figure out what TV you want to buy...or at least some where close to that.
I want to become a Marine Biologist ( someone who studies underwater life), and I'm 17. TO know that IN 2040 THE WHOLE MARINE ECOSYSTEM WOULD HAVE COLLAPSED. By then I would be 38, and I never planned to be retired by 38 years old.
Last year I went a semester long program in the Bahamas called the Island School.
I went diving, snorkeling, and learned about many marine life, but when I went diving I expected to see WAY MORE marine life than I did.
There were coral, but they didn't cover a vast colony of space like they're supposed to.

The Bahamas is infamous for their colorful variety of fish, but how is it going to stay that way, if global warming, by-catch, overfishing, and pollution is destroying it.

LARGE MARINE ANIMAL POPULATIONS DECLINED BY OVER 90% ALREADY! SUCH AS SHARKS,SWORD FISH, AND TUNA.
THERE ARE ONLY 350 RIGHT WHALES ALIVE TODAY.
This issue makes me not want to have children, because of the fear that they will not have the luxury to see the earth's natural beauty, bad enough I haven't.

Time is ticking, and the world is going DRY!

You should go ahead and become a marine biologist. You won't have to retire at age 38 because there will still be life in the seas at that time. The claim of the entire marine ecosystem collapsing within 30 years is ridiculous. Yes, the marine ecosystem is in trouble due to overfishing, pollution, and global warming. We will surely lose many species within these coming decades, which will in turn put others in danger. However, not all will be lost. If anything, people with your job will have even more to do to try to prevent a complete collapse.

The world going dry? I don't think so. The sea levels will continue to rise as ice melts. This will change water temperatures and currents and create havoc for some species, both marine and land. However, the water's not going anywhere. It may be re-distributed around the globe creating droughts or floods in various places, but the earth won't be drier as a whole than it is now.

I could say there is some furious passion in writing this blog entry, but I can't help but wonder about the facts. The marine population has declined over 90%? Who said that, exactly? Usually if I wanted to include a percentage or exact number I'd include a link or mention where I got the info. If you heard it on Discovery Channel, that would be sufficient.

However I must go along with Shimmeringstar on this one and say your facts are a tad wonky.

This issue makes me not want to have children,

This is exactly the correct response.

There are too many people on earth and it seems to be the elephant in the living room that liberal environmentalists refuse to talk about.

An immigrant who comes to America from the third world does ten times as much harm in America as they did when they were living in the third world because they adopt the American lifestyle and particularly our energy consumption habits. But when was the last time you saw the Sierra Club protesting immigration or any population related issue?

Good point. Have you read "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn? I think you would appreciate it.
