So most people have heard about people taking mission trips or maybe even know someone who has been on one. I am all for helping people out. I would love to raise money and just know that I am helping out people who are less fortunate than some people. But why is it when church groups or school groups go on mission trips they sometimes go out of the United States and go to Mexico or someone else if they are older. If they want to help out people and build homes or whatever why do they just stay here in the U.S and fix our country and then go to a different country? Ihave been on trips but have stayed in the area. We basically rebuilt houses and helped paint etc. I am glad that people want to help others but I think that we should maybe start with our own country and then go from there. What do you think?
Why do you travel and help other countries.....take a look at ours?

I totally agree with what you're saying. There's a Bible verse I think in Mark that states how can you take the plank out of your brother's eye if you have a log in your own? Basically- that means, how can you help someone you know, if you have problems bigger on your own? I think we should first conquere what's going on right here in American. We have natural disasters that have recently brought us down, we have homeless people climbing in numbers yet people spend 1500 on plane tickets to go over seas to help. and although I DO AGREE They need help too!!!! I think there needs to be a bigger emphasis on helping our future generations, our children, meeting with people. The kindness can spread throughout the world to other countries, as a team.
I think it goes from our families, to our neighbors, to our community to our city, our state, our nation and our world in that order.
just my opinion though :-)

Actually it is Matthew 7: 3-5 and it says: Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank that is in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye (Matthew 7:3-5).
And it has nothing to do with helping people. It has to with criticizing people. People want to look at what is wrong with someone else and point every little thing wrong with someone else (the speck). We do tend to not pay attention to what faults we have (the plank). We must focus on our shortcomings first and fix what is wrong with us before we can go around saying stuff about someone else.
Basically it's about judging people not helping people.
And if someone wants to go help another country, kudos to them. I don't understand people these days. Always trying to find something wrong. People try to do a good thing and they criticized. Helping someone is better than not helping anyone at all.
Second, most people who do go out of the country help countries that do not have the adequate resources, education, etc. Rarely do people go to places like England and France. England and France can do fine all by themselves for the most part. America can too if it wanted. Yes, there are poor, impoverished areas in America and many of them no one knows about. But, in some Third World countries, it's common of people in the country to be poor.
If an American wants to help an American, then fine.
If an American wants to help someone else, then fine.
There is nothing wrong with helping someone no matter where they come from.
I think its awesome that people want to help others but i think that weshould start here instead of going hours and miles and miles awsy to fix problems when there are probably promblems in their own city
