By now most of you have noticed the advertisements on Progressive U for the Junior Statesmen Summer School. While we know that many of you are fond of the uncluttered-by-commercial-advertisments simplicity of Progressive U, we are excited by this new partnership with the Junior Statesmen Foundation. Here is some background on Junior State of America (JSA) and the Junior Statesmen Foundation.
JSA was created by and for high school students who are interested in politics and government, foreign affairs, the law, and education. What makes JSA so unique is that students organize every aspect of organization, all the way from the chapter level to state and national administration. JSA allows for an exchange of ideas through stimulating student debates, thought talks, problem solving, and a variety of simulations.
JSA is a national organization, from the high school chapter level to the regions which coordinate communication with chapters and run two regional events annually, the states which run three large overnight conventions a year, and the national level of general administration.
The Junior Statesmen Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) educational corporation which provides administrative and educational support for the Junior State of America. In addition to providing advice and assistance to the student-run program, JSF administers the annual Junior Statesmen Summer School and the Summer Symposia.
The Junior Statesmen Summer School is a challenging and dynamic summer program that allows high school students to take college level courses while getting a preview of college life. Programs are offered at four campuses: Yale, Princeton, Georgetown, and Stanford. A full-tuition scholarship, and 20 partial scholarships are available from the Junior Statesmen Foundation.
We will be posting more information about JSA programs throughout the semester, but in the meantime please see these pages on the JSA site for more information:
