Well, When Doesn't the RIAA Shoot Itself in the Foot?

Okay...silly little rant about the purpose of Progressive U aside (see last post):

It looks like we have another reason to boycott ANY and EVERY product the RIAA produces. A new bill is circulating that would require XM Satellite radio to pay more royalties, as they are an easy source of piracy. This would in turn make the users of said radio pay more. Check out the article here:

I suggested before that not voting could change the way elections are held in the future. I'd also like to suggest that we begin some sort of a boycott of any product the RIAA comes out with or is in charge of. We think it would be too hard to do, but not really. Tons of people exist right now who are giving their RIAA-free content away on the web for virtually nothing. Some only request donations. There's an ever growing community of people creating their own music and their own videos online. Honestly, we don't really need what the RIAA has to offer. In fact, I'm sure I could live the rest of my life quite nicely by not giving any more money to this company or listening to their music.

Does anyone know of a full list of artists under the RIAA? Does anyone know of some musicians who aren't with the RIAA? Does anyone know of content that's distributed freely. Let's share RIAA-free content and be happy.

There's a band I listen to called the Unicorns. I'm fairly certain they aren't under the RIAA.
The New Pornographers. I'm also certain they're not under the RIAA. And their music is quite good.
Belle and Sebastian.
Novillero.
The Epoxies.
Lawrence Arms. (I think I've got that right.)

That's just to name a few. But if we're to have a future free of the RIAA's crap, then we need to act out and not give them any more money.

RIAA has caused problems for other places. SIrius is who XM is merging with so I would be affected. I listen to sirius because I dont have to hear the most stupid morning djs or the hick filled broadcast. They got one gal on the radio sounds more like the nanny on tv show called "THE NANNY"
RIAA is overcharging per song. No song is worth that much. Besides this music is what kept some bands fans faith and attracted people from multigenerations. Also one fact is that many albums are not in MP3 format and probably will never will be.
